Count me in the grieving group. Great coach. His offense was always my favorite, but it had to fit at certain places. I always thought he would do really well here. Similar offense as Mullen but a little better. And he's a much better play caller than Mullen. He beat Sabans ass about as much as anyone could hope for. Auburn has never been the same since dumping him and probably never will.
Ok, grieving process is over!! Thanks for the opportunity to get that out!!! Haha
a lot of Auburn fans (I live in Alabama) were ready for him to go.....now, they wish he was back. That's what a few years of Bucky will do to you. I always thought he was a pretty good coach.
I think Gus would have been the perfect fit right after Mullen left. Too bad the stars didn't line up on that one.
He'll forever grin like an Auburn homer for the LARGE contribution they made to his retirement fund.
Everything is different now, I wouldn't want to coach anymore either. Especially if I'd already made millions.Quote:

Football coaches have to renew their knowledge base in a timely manner to keep a step or two ahead of the coaching profession or they perish i.e. shelf life. This also means replacing cherished content that a coach is attached to with something new? Did Gus Malzahn have the mental energy to renew himself?
He doesn't care about renewal anything. He made his money and is fine. All he did last season was exactly what he did in year one. the only thing that changed was the defenses he faced.
