Fan Support and NIL

Today is a prime example of our lack of NIL and talent. Unless we strike lightning in a bottle like Indiana did with Cignetti, we are not going to get much better than 6 wins a year in this current landscape. Cignetti was actually available when we were looking for a coach, but that is here nor there. Blaming Lebby is not the answer to the problem. The issue is that our fans and alumni just don?t care the way the other SEC schools do outside of Vandy. We are the only other SEC school that lets visiting fans take over our stadiums every home game and our fans do not open their pocketbooks to fund football properly. We have the same issue in basketball where except it?s not really visiting fans, it?s just a ton of empty seats unless we are playing a top 5 team or UK or Ole Miss. I actually think Lebby has done a good job getting an SEC win, beating ASU and putting us in a position to win 1 more game. We are our own worst enemy. I am just not sure our big booster fans will ever care enough to provide us a chance to get players that can win 8 or more games a year in this environment. Our fanbase actually always infuriates me more than our teams and coaches because it is just so odd for an SEC fan base

I agree that is part of the problem, but baseball is funded by some former players who have a lot of money to throw around. They also give some to other sports, so I understand giving to the sport they played for. We just have the largest alumni base overall in the SEC that doesn?t care about sports. Don?t get me wrong we have some great fans like all teams, but that number is drastically smaller than other SEC schools. I just don?t think State puts the same type of sports mentality into their student body that you get at the other SEC scores. I live near WVU and their fan base is much stronger and they are a big 12 team. We need to get better at marketing the University and making football and basketball higher priorities and this starts with our administration

As I posted in the game thread, Game Day said Texas Tech paid $7 million for their starting front seven on defense.

Money and productive portal pick ups are the only ways.

While cute, this is getting a little old. That's not what's happening. Totally different group of folks. Baseball folks are making that sport click. We need everyone else to make football work and Selmon is working things.

Cohen set us back 10 years. I pray Auburn keeps him a few more years and then he goes to another SEC team. Preferably one of our usual opponents.

A good percentage of our fans have thrown in the towel on football. It seems to be a permanent decision. I'm not sure where those fans are going to go when we're reminded how lucky you have to be to win the CWS no matter what we do. The football team will be no better next year in the W/L category.

It's tough for most of your common fans. I will use myself for example. I'm die hard when it comes to MSU. I watch every game that I can and absolutely love State. I would love to be able to give. But more importantly I have a family to provide for. I have a job that pays pretty good but I don't have money to just throw at players. And I think this goes for 95% of State fans. Blue collar workers who work to provide for their families and don't have any extra to just throw away. Now as far as our boosters.. I can't speak on that cause I'm not "in the know." But as much as I would love to buy a championship, I can't. And many of our fans can't either. But it doesn't mean we dont care. Cause I damn sure care.

Exactly, its a bogus argument. If you took all the money funding baseball and threw it into football it would make very little difference. And, as you say, the folks funding baseball have no real desire to fund football anyway so if they didn't give it for baseball they likely wouldn't give it at all.

I am so glad folks can realize that now. Not only was he a shitty AD he was a divider of the alumni and boosters. From the way he was installed as AD to the day he left it was a mess. We will be digging out of his hole for a hot minute. 17 that guy.

You are technically correct, we do need everyone else helping with football. But the problem is that we have these baseball only fans within the fanbase that drives all this conversation to that sport and tries to tell everyone that it would be more important and give us more recognition to be good in baseball, a sport that gets outdrawn by volleyball and softball in TV ratings, than a sport that is the only reason we get a 9 figure check from the SEC every year.

The Dude is cool and it’s an incredible atmosphere, and it is infinitely more electric when you are good. But we could go 50-0 or 0-50 and we are going to average 12-13K every SEC weekend.

You just cannot prioritize baseball in any way in this new era. Especially at a school that does not have a billionaire, or 4, that can fund the non revenue stuff as well as the revenue sports.

None of that will happen though, our baseball team will continue to eat up funding that needs to be going to football. I am glad that we have boosters that are so passionate about a sport that they want to fund it as well as they do. I just wish they would take 75% of what they are giving to baseball and give it to football.

Well when they started NIL a lot of us said it was going to be bad for us lesser schools. Schools like Ga., LSU, Bama, Tn., Tx and A&m having been buying players big bucks for a very long time and have twice the fan base we have. While yes we bought players but no where near the $$ amount as others.

Example know for fact that ole miss was buying players or buying players momma’s houses while we were buying players with way less dollars and buying players moma’s furniture not a house. That’s how big the discrepancy was/is!

I agree he plays a large role in all this. From what I have heard he was a nightmare to deal with. I am just so thankful Auburn took him or the situation here would actually be worse. The only good decision he made was hiring Jans. I really don?t know what else he did well. It is OK for sports writers to be fooled by a baffoon, but an AD being totally played by Moorhead is just completely unacceptable and baffling

Proof is in the pudding. All I see is baseball fully funded and football NIL put on the back burner. The focus has been totally on baseball at State for ages. 100%. Here is the difference, our fans look for reasons TO DONATE to baseball, a non revenue sport. They look for reasons NOT TO DONATE in football. Mens basketball is thankfully taken care of by Oscar and Richard for the most part.

He can start at this point. He could have started at 4-3. There is no difference in 9-3 and 4-8 in this new age of College Football. Once you get the 3rd loss you start playing the young guys if they have potential.
