Do we even have a commit left for 2026?
Apparently, many of these players are being let go because State thinks current seniors on the team are going to get another year of eligibility due to a court ruling.
All of those guys were processed
Read my latest post above on the recruiting thread. We have 22 three stars at this time, a couple close to 4 stars. We are now ranked 46th nationally and the class could easily drop to mid 50's if we don't process more , win more games and flip some better prospects. If you read the offer sheets of many of these commits, we must know something, the 45 schools ahead of us don't know and several that will pass us soon in the rankings.
We seem to be processing the lowest ranked commits in HS/JC class as the NCAA looks like it will pass the rule for players to have 5 years to play 5 years. Thus, we will have many current players gain another year of eligibility. However, the class is ranked #46 nationally at this time. There are about 10 teams behind us with a higher ranking per committed player with more openings to fill that will pass us in the rankings.
We may have some diamonds in the rough with the current 22 commits, but the offer sheets of several are very suspect.
Several on this site feel that HS recruitment is not worth the $ required to land a player now unless he is a sure thing starter or can contribute by year 2. Maybe just get heavier into the portal every class. JMO, but I still think you need a balance of best HS/JC players you can get, plus great evaluation and success in the portal.
With 5 for 5 I would much prefer we throw $2M into 5-6 HS guys, maybe 100k on a few fringe HA guys from important programs to keep MS coaches happy or take some future superstars younger brother, then spend the remaining 18M on current roster and transfers. I like what we are doing minus not having a couple blue chip HS guys currently.
Welcome to the Portal recruiting!
I feel the same. Lebby said our talent level was so poor last year that we couldn't even practice well or have a good scout team, thus some of our recent "takes" that will never see the field on game day. I hope those days are soon to be over as we improve our talent and our needs at all positions and levels. BTW, I hate the virtually no rules portal. In my my opinion it is much worse than the joke, "NIL", which is really pay to play. It is what it is. I hope it goes to roster limits, a salary cap (will just be on paper however), and contracts as this is now a minor league pro network. Would be nice to have a couple of years to learn the names and numbers of the best players instead of them hitting the portal every year.
Glad we have Lebby, I think with him being young and second year HC, he will adjust to the changing times in college football recruiting. I have no problems with "losing" some of the HS recruits. Now it's do it now or be gone from players to coaches, LOL! Truth!
No one cares WHERE we get good players. But it doesn't seem to make as much sense anymore in this environment to recruit HS players and develop them. So go get players who can contribute much sooner. But bottom line just get them.
I know HS recruiting is much lower in priority these days but Lebbys HS class this year makes some of Leach's HS classes look stellar.
You all spend too much time worrying about things you can not control! Let the man do his job we are going to grade him on wins and losses not recruiting. I believe he will be a good coach just give him time.
Our head coach is working his ass off. I seen it
High school recruiting simply isn't as big of a priority as it used to be.
That said, as usual some of our recruits are criminally underrated like JJ Hill who should absolutely be a four star recruit.
I also suspect we'll flip some guys before signing day too.
