And USM kicked Appalachian State's ass tonight. App State is usually a pretty solid team.
Arizona State is in progress but they have a solid lead over Texas State.
ASU beating the tar out of TSU.
TSU best UTSA by a score.
Aggy beat UTSA by about 20.
Transitive property says were around the same as Aggy.
Based on the early stats I think we're a mid upper level SEC team. And probably one of the most well rounded on offense/defense/special teams.
The good news/bad news is I don't think we're probably top half in talent so either we have a heck of coaching staff or a staff that can really evaluate well and found a ton of underrated prospects.
I'm not sure that our offense is good enough to win a track meet with Tennessee or A&M but they're better than most and at the same time I think our defense is better than some SEC teams but not good enough to shut down someone like a Georgia completely.
Looks like we have a solid shot against Texas, Ark, and UM. Handle business against NIU and win 2 of those 3 and suddenly we are cooking.
Our talent and depth is a lot better than I think many give us credit for. We have guys flying to football on D, all over 2 deep. O has depth most everywhere too. Who has 3 QB or 5 RB as good as we do? We have 2 of fastest WR in nation. ST well one of best kickers. If I saw us on schedule, I wouldn't want to play us.
Fluff Bothwell and the OL set the tone in this game. Offensive line getting noticeably better in the run as the season progresses. Still need to continue working on penalties and missing pass blocking assignments. Lost Steen but still in good shape but need to stay as healthy as possible moving forward.
Bothwell starting to emerge, he's a load to deal with, looks like an NFL draft prospect .
Whoa! I take absolutely nothing from beating Alcorn State except it was a win. They are horrible in every sense of the word yet at times they had some small successes that could be concerning. The fact that we had to go to 10 minute quarters in the second half actually hurt our opportunity to see even more of our depth.
We need an even better performance all the way around against N. Illinois! I don't mean score more than 63. I mean clean up the penalties, Keep Shapen from getting hit behind the line. Better pass rush!!!!
I guess Lebby will always be disappointed. I just pointed out some of the same points he made. There is.stuff to clean up. Too many penalties. And still need a true pass rush and I just don't see that playing 3 D-linemen 70% of the snaps.
It was a win against a SWAC school. Not even FCS level. Multiple DII and probably a few DIII teams could beat them. State did what they were supposed to do score wise. Stop the stupid penalties and we may actually beat some more good teams this year!
