They cancelled to help our RPI. Ole Miss did it the year they won the championship. They would not have gotten in had they played the game.
Committee said they?d penalize last year if you cancel a game this late and it?s not weather related
Btw bunch of pussies for cancelling
17 the Committee. Makes no sense to play the game.
How does this affect our pitching going forward?
Since this is a Thursday/Friday/Saturday series, is there any chance we go Sullivan/Kohn/Siary for this week in order to keep Kohn and Siary on the same days, and save Ligon for the first game of the SEC Tournament?
Im proud of them, the haven’t tarped the field since Saturday. Pulled a Bull Durham
I like Sullivan enough to pitch him in the SEC and Regionals. He's a baseball Dude. He handles it all.
Pico is leader, he won't like being rested.
I would rest in the SECT if MSU does not Pull an Aggie vs Mizzou.
But nobody listens to me. I would have won in 2013 for Cohen with Jonathan Holder starting game-1. Cohen started two walkons for the national championship. UCLA started their future MLB and high draft picks...and Cohen benched his.
Playing them would have dropped our RPI slightly more than likely. Losing would have been pretty damaging.
I think our cake is baked anyway. If they penalize us- I mean what are they going to do? Make us a four seed? That's probably penalizing the host more than us.
What we should have done is not schedule the game to start with. We've never been in a situation where we "needed" to play a midweek game this late in the year. There is no way we could schedule a decent team that late in the season last minute either because everyone's schedule is full.
What we SHOULD do is schedule another early game pre-SEC on a Wednesday so we could get another game in and see more of our team early. That would at least be productive. And we would have been less likely to feel compelled to have pitcher tryouts against a ranked mid major at home.
I would play the game. I’m a competitor who will play anyone, anywhere, anytime. I don’t like canceling. That’s me. I don’t believe in shying away from competition.
It's fine to play some low RPI games to help programs out. Everybody in the SEC does. But you can only do it a few times per season. Not to mention its never a good idea to schedule a game the last week of the SEC season. You have injuries, tired arms, tired legs....just a bad idea
Agree that there should be no mid week games the last couple of weeks of regular season.
But also think that these games against lower RPI teams should not figure in to the RPI totals. Realistically these should be games to get some playing time for younger players to gain some experience during the season. Realistically, if I am on a selection board responsible for picking teams and assigning seeding, I throw out the games against lower RPI teams win or lose. You would not make a final decision on a team being in or out because they played a game against North Alabama. If you played 10 teams with that poor of an RPI to bump up your win total then that should be considered but not 3 or 4 games where you may be trying out some pitchers or other players.
