The ladies lead Texas 27-26 at the half.
Our girls are putting up one helluva fight against a very talented Texas team. End of three: Texas 49, State 48.
Texas wins it in the end 68-64. But what a great performance by our girls; they gave #1 a first class game.
Mannnnn that would have been such a sweet win. Vic was scared shitless
Vic is a class act for setting his game-plan up conservatively to give us a chance and to not blow us out. That man can coach. Miss that dude.
Sam has the most wins of any coach in our history over his first three years and he inherited a drama filled shit show, I'm willing to be patient with him. We show flashes, just no consistency except turnovers. He needs to recruit the HS ranks better and build a program. We're too portal heavy and that creates problems.
Powe is our best 3-point shooter, she will be our leader I think next year. Also, it really hurt when Okator (?) had to sit with her 4th foul which hurt and may have been the game changer, she has gotten better over the year. I love Purcell's passion, but yes, he needs to get better consistence with on the floor coaching/managing.
Vic was emotional post game talking about his time in Starkville.
John Cohen is the worst. Just an incompetent AD that continues to fail upwards.
If Vic wanted to stay, he would've stayed. He and Cohen didn't get along and it had nothing to do with politics, drama with the team, clandestine relationships, etc. Vic wanted us to sink more money into a program losing close to 6 million dolllars a year. And he wanted it coming out of men's basketball or football. He also didn't like that baseball was thought of so highly at Mississippi State. He wanted us to be known for women's basketball and wanted it marketed that way. This is the same guy who pulled Robbie Faulk aside after a press conference one time and berated him about why the women's basketball team was on Pg 4 in the Starkville Daily News. Keep in mind, it was November and they had beaten some no name by 60. But he thought that should be front page over football. DURING FOOTBALL SEASON.
Now I will go one by one on why all those "rumors" are BS:
1. Politics-Cohen had literally just hired the most unabashed Donald Trump supporter in college athletics 2 months prior. So gonna call BS on that.
2. Drama with the team- There was no relationships going on with players and staffers. We would've heard about it by now. Mississippi State lives by the motto loose lips sink ships. There's loose lips all over that campus and in that athletic dept.
3. Clandestine relationships-No. This kind of folds into the other one but involves his family. I will just say no. I have many reasons to know that is so far from the truth and if you'd like to know them please PM me and I'll tell you.
At the end of the day, Vic made a decision. Texas allows him to lose as much money as he wants and they don't give a rats ass. We were not going to allow him to do that.
You're wrong on a couple of those points. There was a relationship and there was drama with the team when Vic left. And we all know Cohen's politics but he had to make a name hire after screwing things up. Leach was the only one he could get. But you're right on Vic, he was leaving for Texas no matter what we did.
I probably worded that wrong. There may have been a relationship, but it wasn't something that heads were going to roll over. And the drama stemmed from stuff that came to light about 8 months later with Rickea Jackson and others.
As far as a relationship with a player and a family member, that was false. So incredibly false actually.
But Vic was leaving. He and Cohen just didn't get along and at the end of the day it's because they're both Type A and want what's best for THEIR program. I've always said that Cohen's biggest flaw was that he still operated like the baseball coach.
No it's not. Y'all want it to be some grand conspiracy so badly that you just can't accept that Vic just left. If Vic wanted to be here, he would be. Our offer would've made him on of the 3 highest paid HCs at the time. And the only one in the top 6 or 7 without a national championship. The only thing that Cohen did that caused Vic to leave was told him no. That's it. It's that simple. Cohen and Vic didn't get along but Vic didn't get along with any coach on campus. Mullen HATED him. HATED him. Cohen hated him when he was the baseball coach. Howland hated him. There's no conspiracy theory. He just thought his program was better and that's ok. That's what a coach is supposed to think. Also, we covered some stuff up for that family. Vic's family is a pain in the ass to deal with. Not so much Vic and Holly, but those two kids are another story. His son was a problem, I'll just leave at that. The kid had some problems and some may have been caused by the accident but he was becoming a major problem. And evidenced by his road rage incident in 2019, it probably would've only gotten worse.
