I suspect that they'll redo the whole conference champs getting automatic byes, maybe as soon as next year. If they'd just rank 1-12, Oregon would have an easier path but having OSU at 8 is absurd.
The UGA/Penn State side of the bracket is definitely the easiest one to be in.
This playoff would be way more attractive without all of the conference re-alignment that happened for this season.
4 byes would have been - UGA (sec champ), TEX(big 12 champ), OREGON(pac 12 champ), PENNST/OHIO STATE(big 10 champ)
Host sites - UTenn, ND, OHIO STATE/PENNSTATE and likely Indiana.
Travel teams would be - ASU, BOISE, SMU, CLEMSON.
ASU and Boise having a bye does not seem like a fair shake. Making the playoffs is fine, but being seeded as a top 4 is totally different and is going to cause folks to schedule weaker OOC opponents going forward.

Yep, who wants to play a Conference championship and risk getting bumped out of the CFP. Do away with the automatic bids and set the CFP seeds before conference championships. Conference championships will be a thing of the past, I'm afraid - or you will have teams opting out of it.Quote:
