I said it after the EKU game. Our defensive line is woefully bad. Now they are being paid I wish knew some of the defensive linemen names I would call them out by name. Before NIL I refused to call out players on message boards by name. But now they are merely paid mercenaries imo they are free game to call out individually by name and say how terrible they are.
This is obviously a new year, and it's the age of the transfer, but ASU was 113th in rushing offense last season
Like I said in another post, I only watched first half, but seeing 3 down lineman and them getting crushed without crowding the line was inexcusable not adjusting. Maybe we did a little in second half. We are a very soft defensive team.
Softest I have ever seen. The DC did them no favor last night either going 3 down the whole first half
That 3-3-5 was getting run through. Even hitting them at the line was still a 5 yard run. Dumb move not moving to a 4-3 or at least 3-4.
Bama Assistant, but lacking Bama talent. Ray Charles could see three man front was bad idea.load the box , their QB was terrible passing. Our DL couldn’t play on a sun Belt team.
Anybody betting we get a legit DC in December?
I was hoping we pulled Durkin from A&M but he ain't exactly got a good defense at Auburn this year.
You could pick any DC in the country Im not sure what he could do.
Our front seven personnel is as bad as I can ever remember. Signing DL in the portal that were backups at Purdue was the first warning sign. The second sign, is when a kid we offered in January that was going juco or maybe G5 is getting a ton of reps as a true freshman.
Guys we are paying the price for years of shitty front seven recruiting. We were able to squeeze another year of solid defense last year because of Covid years.
If we dont start recruiting legit SEC DL Im not sure how this gets fixed.
We?re so deprived of talent defensively I can?t tell if we?re poorly coached or not.
Agreed but either way the scheme should have changed drastically last late and early and it didn't. No way we shouldn't have looked at them and said I dare you to throw the ball. At least if they scored they would have scored quickly and not ate 9 minute drives up. They had one game plan and that was to run and use the full play clock to make that game as short as possible and limit our offensive snaps and they worked and we helped them.
sqyterboo on twitter saying 5 in the box was a slap in the face to them
And he bitch slapped us, from the first whistle.
And here it is. We had 5 in the box the entire first half and refused to adjust, even when it was obvious the QB could not beat us through the air. When we finally started putting 6 and 7 in the box, we got stops. This is where we lost the game. Using 3 on the line and 2 LBs in the box. It was moronic. And it let a below average FB look like Emmitt Smith. That will be Scategories best game of the year bc no one else will put 5 in the box against a team that wants to run and can't throw. They have 3 offensive weapons and we decided not to mitigate 2 of them AT ALL.
Softness is on the S&C staff. Remember when Mullen came in? First thing he did was talk up the importance of the S&C staff, then went and hired the best S&C coach he could get. I don't know who our current S&C coach is, but Lebby should have made him walk home from Tempe and have his stuff waiting for him in cardboard boxes when he got back to Starkville. Go find Baliss and bring him back home. If he doesn't want to come, ask him who he recommends and go get that guy. Or go poach an assistant from UGA's S&C staff. They clearly know what they're doing. Having a crap S&C staff is inexcusable.
This was his first test, and he failed it. We'll, maybe a D- after the adjustments (too bad he reverted back on the last drive with the game on the line). But, it's one test. Hopefully he learned and gets better. We have a young (or at very inexperienced staff), so chalk it up to growing pains. As long as they're learning and getting better, that's not ideal but it's OK. If we're still making the same coaching blunders in game 12, then that's different.
