Washington: Prolific ex-Mississippi State QB in line to replace Michael Penix Jr.
One of the most accomplished passers in SEC history is headed to the West Coast

Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers committed to Washington Friday, giving the Huskies a clear successor to star quarterback Michael Penix Jr. for the 2024 season. Rogers is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in SEC history and will spend his final season on the West Coast to help aid UW's transition to the Big Ten.

Rogers signed with Mississippi State in 2020. He owns the SEC career completions record. His 12,315 passing yards and 94 passing touchdowns rank second and fourth in conference history. Rogers ranked as the No. 53 overall player available and the No. 11 quarterback available in the 247Sports portal rankings.

Good for him for getting another P5 gig. But he won't be playing in the PAC 9 anymore. I think Washington is now in the league formally known as the Big 12?? So their will be defense and I'll look at their schedule.

I wish him all the best . Now lets stop talking about him. He is not with us anymore so he ceases to be a Bulldog. Everyone is mercenaries. Love them for a year.

No they are going to the Big 10 where they will play real defenses like Iowa, Ohio St, Penn St, Michigan, Wisconsin etc.

I see that. They still play 4 of their former Pac teams next year.

I'm interested in seeing how he deals with weather - cold in big 10 and rainy in northwest. We don't have a lot of games in these conditions, but the ones I remember (egg bowls, at Kentucky, and tulsa) he struggled.

They beat the Big 10 team they played. Also beat #5,#8,#11,#18, and #20

I hope he kills it and leads them to another playoff.

I just think he is going to be average.

That Rocky hates him some Rogers

Quite a stat sheet to be the 11th best QB in the portal though. Sounds like he would be ranked higher with those stats. Maybe somebody sees what we saw, good not great. But I have no ill will, his coach died so good luck to him. Hope he does well, I thought he was all dawg while here.

DeBoer knows what he is doing. He isn?t taking Will for no reason. He is one of the best coaches in CFB. Taking Washington to the playoff with probably one of the least raw talented teams to get there

Penix, odunze, trice, fautanu, and Polk are all projected 1st round in at least one major mock draft

I would dare say Rogers has faced a harder schedule and harder defenses than that week after week. Add in a play caller with a clue, playmakers and a weaker schedule and defenses. I think Rogers will do just fine !!

If Leach hadn't passed away he would have had a great year here and maybe stays. He should have left last year.

Barbay really 17ed him and our team over. Hard to use your best players when you're being asked to hand it off 60% of the time to one guy.

I bet he has a good bounce back year at Washington. Pro style offense but it's pass first and their OC is really good.

PSU and Michagan are the only concerns on that schedule.

Concur, Will would have had a great year in 2023. If the coaches at Washington can get him to take more chances downfield, he'll do well.

Doesn't Iowa usually have a good defense?

Iowa had the best defense in that group this year

Looking at their schedule next year they will be playing some stout defenses. Michigan, PSU, and Iowa finished in the top 5 nationally in defense this year. Oregon and UCLA finished in the top 25 in defense nationally this year. How that translates to next year and what those teams lose I have no idea but I fully expect him to lead them to losses in those games unless the coach is an absolute miracle worker or they have total ballers at RB and WR.

You must not have paid attention to this board when Arnett was hired. KB absolutely ruined this board to the point posters stopped posting. It was insufferable.

He's much better now. But it was real bad back then.

I going to be all about Washington's O-line. If they can provide Rogers with a very clean 4-5 second pocket every play he'll be relatively successful . A shorter time will produce moderate to poor success and if he's actually pressured no success.

If Arnett hadn't changed Leach's Air Raid offense Rogers would more than likely still be at MS State. He should have left the same coaches stay on the staff
and he could have been HC/DC. Pretty sure we would have done much better.

To be fair he was one of the few on here correct with disliking the Arnett hire. Some people on here were comparing him to Saban which was much more ridiculous
