What does our Defensive Scheme Look Like in 2024?

I for one am tired of the 3-3-5. In my opinion, it only works well with shut down CB's (See JLD in the past), and three down DL that can put pressure on the QB. One reason our LB's led the league in tackles was the 3 down linement getting very few and many of the LB"s tackles were too many yards downfield. What's up next?

Yeah most snaps are nickel. Just a matter if you have 0, 1 or 2 edge guys with hand in the dirt. Think a 34 defense 2-4-5 could work well here with the interior DL we get and undersized guys that take a few years to put on the weight to be a true 43, 4-2-5 de.

What we play will very much depend on how many quality DL we have.

Yep. The base formation now 11 personnel even in the NFL.

I think we might be multiple like Alabama. Coleman has some Saban and Muschamp influence but he also has some Dan Quinn and DJ Durkin influence and they are more 4-3/4-2-5 guys.

We have to have talent to be successful in any scheme. I’m ready to see how well we recruit to our needs on both sides of the ball. I’m not worried about the coaching aspect of it. I would like to see our recruiting ranking jump to top 20 year in and year out. We always stay in the same space. If we are really wanting to take the next step, it will depend on better recruiting…..period. Talent, talent, talent!!!!

I hear ya. The biggest part of that to me is to by dynamic at qb. You get that position right and you can be a 23-27 recruiter and win a bunch of games.
