I knew there was an announcement 6 days out before it happened due to what I do. I had no clue who it was until the end. Things have to happen for these kinds of events to take place and this new administration is working well ahead of time. Plans have to be made in advance.

He was pretty good in 2019 and 2020 at Oklahoma. He had a pretty big drop in total defense at Oklahoma in 2021, and he's been flat out horrible at usc the last 2 years.

In the last 13 seasons (ie post being Miamis HC) Shannon has been a P5 DC for 1 season, and a G5 DC for like 4. Huepel worked with him at UCF at elected not to take him to TN. If we go that route, we're basically saying either

1) the whole CFB world has been wrong on Shannon for a decade and he IS a P5 DC, or

2) we can't hire even a decent G5 DC.

Either option is terrifying. Surely he's a smokescreen. I mean, he's a LB coach right now, if we were targeting him why wouldn't it be announced already? Hopefully he's plan G or whatever and we're going to get one of the A-F options
