Certainly not my first choice, but figuring out who will be successful and who won't is basically flipping coins. Hopefully he works out

If so, then Selmon is exactly what most of us thought. Lebby's resume is crap compared to most of the other candidates that we have supposedly been talking to.

I'm not sold Lebby is the choice. I'm holding out hope. We can't be this poorly managed.......

Sumrall, Odom, and Fritz all have resumes 100x better than Lebby. Lebby could turn out to be great, but the others have better experience by far.
Also, a Lebby hire would be extremely meh..... which is the worst thing we could do right now. Talk about zero excitement headed into the offseason.

Still not believing it's him!!! Haha!! Hanging on to hope!!

We?re not hiring a coordinator or first time head coach. We need a mature leader to stabilize things and hire good coordinators

If this is the case I'll support, but I'll also be disappointed in Selmon. It would seem to be a lazy and easy hire, but I'm not privy to who was interviewed or the process.

Offensive guy, which checks a huge box for me, but I’d rather have a HC, even if on the G5 level. Would be able to get a staff together if he’s already done it. And bring a few of his own.

Not really. You just have to be willing to pay out to get a proven winner. You can?t be gun shy with the pocket book in the current SEC state of affairs. Lebby may work out or he may not. Guess we will see. I?m sure he came at a good price though?

I hope not. I just don’t think he’s a good coach, morals notwithstanding. There will be people that don’t support him simply due to the sexual assault accusations. While that is a concern his actions after it all are immature and makes me doubt his leadership abilities. Additionally, I believe he is very “Morrhead-esque” in that his offense does great when he had better athletes than the opponent but it’s all just smoke and mirrors and a little luck. Plus, Heupel and Kiffins leadership and offensive minds have helped him out. He doesn’t have that now and he’s struggling a bit and he has Oklahoma’s resources. It would be a bad hire regardless of how tight he and Selmon are.

Could Sumrall as HC utilize Lebby as OC? Would this be a thing or no?

Thick
11-23-2023, 11:01 AM
If Odom brings his OC, I would be fine with it. Plus he knows how to run a program. That?s what I personally want?..a sitting HC. Coordinators are a toss up, you just don?t know how they will handle being in charge. We have not had much luck with those type of hires.

Why would you want a fanbase split like that? I wouldn't want to hire any coach that a lot of fans are uncomfortable with, even if I personally was OK with him.

Well, as you know, there's a certain segment of the population that feels it's a good thing to be an asshole 100% of the time if it gets you what you want and doubly so if it pisses off people you don't like.

Clearly that dude is among them.

I'll still watch the games on TV and cheer for my team, but I won't send a dollar to the athletic department if that's the kind of person we're hiring. Leave that shit to Ole Miss and Auburn.

Never been a head coach and no matter what anyone thinks, the Briles thing is a negative.

Here's the thing i don't get about the 'Briles' thing. Most wanted Briles as OC under Arnett last offseason, so of it didn't bother us then why would it bother us now wirh Lebby?

I don't want Lebby but it has nothing to do with the Baylor stuff. And I don't claim any special knowledge about the Baylor controversy. But he's been hired by four different schools since then. Four different schools found him worthy of walking their sidelines; what are they missing or overlooking that we're supposed to be outraged over?

What impresses you with Lebby?

I'll hang up and listen.

He?s one of the best offensive coaches in modern college football. He has 2 top scoring offenses and 3 top 30 scoring offenses in the past 5 years.

He can assemble the best SEC ready staff of all 4 of those coaches. He?s the best recruiter of all 4 of those coaches and his staff might be the best recruiting staff ever assembled at Mississippi State.

His father in law is arguably a top 5 modern era football coach. He?s literally on speed dial. Need advice. Let me call Art.

CoachT14

Why do people keep saying this? There was one particular lawsuit where the woman who sued him didn't win. That doesn't necessarily mean he's innocent or uninvolved, and it says nothing about the other dozen women where he definitely was.

Who are we even talking about now?

Art Briles has not been "cleared" despite a lot of posters here believing that for some reason. I don't think anyone here is alleging that Lebby was involved himself (thus not needing to be "found to be not involved" in the first place), but Lebby seems to be in denial of the gravity of what Briles did, continuing to associate with him professionally (I get that he's not going to cut his family member off personally, and that's fine).
