Great vacation and it ended in our annual MSU/ARK game.
These are my thoughts on what I saw.
1- Arkansas has quit. KJ was off all game along. Missed a wide open TD by throwing it in the dirt. Their OC is not good. Does stupid things every game. At this point, knowing there is a buyout clause with Pittman... he very well may be gone.
2- It was great to see the defense use our speed to get to the QB. Saw a lot of DB blitzes in comparison to the year. The bad is that there were open guys all game. Not sure that we will handle that in the remaining games. We will not face another team like a defeated and demoralized Arkansas. If KJ would have been on, they win this game.
3- on Offense, we simply need to go in a different direction. We are lost with an OC that's not good. Example in this game, he lined the FG up in a very bad spot. If you know we are going to kick a FG if a first down is not made, you don't run a play that ends in an area not good for any kicker. We still can not block in pass protection. We are not great in run blocking. He had 2 weeks to game plan for Arkansas and this is what we came up with.
4- We won the game on 2 great plays. Justin getting higher than the DB on a lame duck throw. The play that sealed it was the penalty by Zavion. Had we been coached well, he would have been set. But because he did not get set, the muffed snap that they scoop up and take for a TD got called back.
5- Watching the game in person really showed how bad both teams are. Bottom line. We are very poorly coached.
Yes, a win is a win. But we are 7 games in and are still lost.
- Side note. If you ever get the opportunity to go to Arkansas, make plans to stay longer. Plenty to see and do. People are nice too.
