If you're there at dusk, there is a great rooftop bar restaurant downtown

There's basically the military park and then downtown. If you're into running/walking the park has a couple of 2-3 mile loops and there are some pretty awesome views as the suns coming up. The Illinois monument and Cairo boat are worth driving to see at least. Downtown has several small museums, a couple of small art galleries, coffee shops, shopping and several dining options. Coke/root beer floats at the coke factory are a must. Rusty's is southern cajun, relish is modern, 10 south is pretty good food with awesome views, Key City is a brewery and has pizza and a proper patty melt (also rooftop option), cocktails 101 has great cocktails and a great selection of shareable appetizers. Can't forget about historic Walnut Hills (lazy Susan) and the unique Tomato Place. If casinos are your thing, Ameristar is the best option. They may have a band at the Bottle Neck Blues Bar. Other dining options north of town are Beechwood (surf and turf special) and Toney's seafood. If you can get in Anchuca on Saturday night, do it. Happy to answer any questions.

Pretty good rundown.

The place TheLostDawg referred to in an earlier post is called "10 South." I've taken my wife there and we enjoyed it. You go up in a small elevator, but when you first come in there's a short staircase that for some reason seemed precarious when she was coming down. She was in very high heels at the time. It may have just been because they were new, but just keep that in mind.

I've only been there once, stopping on the way to the "Snow Bowl". We went to the casino (I think it was called American Casino or something similar) and we went to the Civil War battlefield and the museum. That's pretty much a must-see. The casino had a guy sitting on a stool, playing a guitar, and singing the blues. We watched him for at least an hour.

What about the tamales?

Rustys for Shrimp Po Boy
Key City for craft beer
Across the river for Drive Thru Daiquiri
10 South for the after-party

For nostalgia, Walnut Hills.

Many folks recommend the Beachwood.

What about the tamales?

Pick up a dozen or two at either Solly's on South Washington or The Tamale Place on I-10 service road, practically the same family. Tamales are unique and you won't forget them and will come back for more.
