6-0 or 5-1.

He struggled with Bama but he could have beat this Bama team with 6-7 of his teams.

Screw him but I'd take him back at this point. Probably same record, maybe beat USC but Defense is our biggest problem right now. Who would he have brought in? Remember we couldn't keep a DC with Mullen. No one in defense would stay. Offense was complete opposite but we all are familiar with the county club

Doesn't matter if he could or couldn't keep a DC. Outside Torbush and Sirmon, both of whom he moved on quickly from, the rest of his defenses were at a min a TD better than this year.

Probably better than 3-3 , if he and staff stayed out of shorts (It's been pretty hot). His teams usually competed until he drew up against bama and then started annual job search.

Mullen would be about 4-2. Losses to LSU and Bama.

3-3. Same as leach same as arnett. We have up 37...... 37 to usc. None of them were beating lsu or bama. And if they were here wouldn't have scored 38 agaisnt usc. So easy, 3-3

drummerdawg

4-2.

He would've beaten a bad USCe team, even if it was on the road.

I think the bigger question would have been what would Mullen?s record have been at MSU in 2018. That could have been a special season.

Blame Florida?s da AD for firing his head coach and Tennessee fans for picketing the AD and Maryland for thinking they might be a football school in 2018.

Sorry I forgot the *** on OP. Wasn't meant to be a serious discussion but that is OK.

Just trying to keep up with the AR lover trends of what ifs.

Most of this roster couldn't play for Mullen.

Lol yeah gotta love the what ifs. Hypotheticals are always a weak argument.

You could start a thread that says what would our record be with Nick Saban as our coach lol

I have to admit, the outpouring of so many people asking Coach Mullen to come back on Facebook and Instagram is interesting. I'm neither for nor against at this point but the nostalgia sure is fun to think about on this one....

From Coach Mullen's page: "9 years ago today Mississippi State became the first ever #1 team in the college football playoff era"

Totally agree. The only way to consider this question is if Mullen parachuted in and started coaching the week of the first game. If he had stayed the roster would be different BUT if he had stayed he would probably have little gas in the tank by now so it's impossible to say.

We probably are not near as soft and we have somebody leading the program who players know is a SEC head coach, so the defense would be a little better, not much. I'd say 4-2.

4-2 but the LSU game would have been a lot closer.

Fair point. If we were 4-2 right now, I'd say we'd project at 8-4 on the season with a Jan 1 type bowl. What a far cry from the season so far.

He'd certainly lost to Bama and possibly lost to LSU, likely would have beat USCe

Interestingly enough, Coach Mullen's winning career winning percentage (62%) during his overall tenure as a head coach in the SEC is higher than Mark Stoops (54%) AND High Freeze (60%).

Is 2 years off enough time to gauge what went wrong, what he would change, what coaches does he want around him (and not around him)? Does spending time at ESPN give him any new insights to communication and the world of NIL and portals? I have absolutely no idea but it's interesting to ponder.

He'd be 5-1. Idk which one, but I feel like he would split one of the Bama/LSU games this year. We beat USCe.

I've been pretty adamant about not wanting him back, but went down the nostalgia train last night and it's got me feeling some kind of way right now. Lol.

I would only want him back if he is bringing the 2019-2020 Florida offense with him.

Yeah, I'm gonna change my original thoughts. I think we could be 5-1 one with him this season. Probably would have beaten LSU by a TD. We would have beaten the stank outta USCe.

Mullen was super consistent. He was goi g to win what he was supposed to win and lose what he was supposed to lose. We would be 4-2.

Yep! The only thing even remotely close to that feeling, from the football side, was when we kicked the last second fg to beat arky that sent us to atlanta. Both those days were super special but I gotta say that auburn game was electric.

I remember walking up to the junction that morning and someone was selling ponchos. I told my wife we wouldn't need them. Then it came a frigging monsoon during the game.

I was sick and couldn't make the Ark game...even more sick after we won and I wasn't there!!!

Yeah Auburn was electric. Florida in 09 when we ran back the INT before the half was a pretty electric stadium too.

I still say the coldest game at Davis Wade was the FIRST NIGHT GAME against LSU under temp lights. Raining in morn, then cleared to the most beautiful blue sky afternoon and brisk north wind. By game time it was cold, by second half it was BRUTAL cold. To this day one of the five greatest games IMO at Davis Wade. John Bond and company showed what DOG football was about, tough, hard nose, great defense, aggressive offense. I will never forget it..... also the greatest uni’s ever........ever.

Mullen would not be my first choice because of his antics and I?m not sure he even wants to coach college football, but Mississippi State football was the most exciting under Mullen than any other coach. Leach was possibly on his way there this year, but Mullen was still the best. I would probably take Mullen as 3rd or 4th option if we couldn?t make it work with Chadwell or Clawson. There isn?t really anyone else out there besides Smith, Klieman or Leipold that I would look at and I don?t think those 3 would be realistic to come here.

The 2007 Bama game was the loudest ever esp the moment AJ picked off the pass. Hell no one had left the jubction an hour after the game ended. We stayed just to ring Saban off campus. And you can see me and Coast Rat Dog cheering when AJ crossed into the endzone.
