Oh man. Absolutely one of the best ever. In that group with Ham, Lambert, Lewis, Taylor, Seau etc. RIP Animal.

Back when most all LB's had no front teeth, along with "Smiling Jack" Lambert. Great player in Butkis!

Butkus was a bad, bad man! He terrorized offenses. If he played today with as soft as it is now, all his salary would go to pay fines for being too rough and he?d probably be arrested lol! I remember reading his autobiography and he said he got paid a tidy sum each month to make sure no one stole the concrete benches outside the football stadium lol!

RIP to one of the greatest!

Butkus might be the best MLB to ever play. He was massive for his era and he was an absolutely vicious tackler.

When you think of old school football he definitely comes to mind.

I was hoping I would see Butkus on the sideline of our bowl game last year.

According to my father, who was a good MLB in his own right, Butkus was the "best and meanest football player he ever saw".

In honor of his passing, perhaps his greatest quote: "I'd never try to hurt anyone, unless it was important. You know, like a league game or something." Legend. He'd get banned from the game now.
