1. Got home at 2am from our football game yesterday so I wasnt in the Chef mood yesterday. Grabbed a rack of ribs from the local BBQ place here that has the best baked beans you'll get that arent made by a grillmaster in a home cook. Little34 had his 1st Homecoming Dance/date also so he was pumped about that. Pics are hilarious with my giant escorting this little short girl. On a positive note he feels like he will be able to dunk by Christmas- which is not bad for a 9th grader.
2. What a lucrative day of college football. Fla State got the momentum going early with their come from behind win- then Bama handled bidness. Wash State rolled. Teaser after teaser hit. But alas, the fun must come to an end as I lost my 9 game parlay on the 9th game when Minnesota blew their 31-10 lead and lost to terrible Northwestern in OT. One game away from a paycheck kind of a day.
3. Congrats to Coach Barbay. Now THAT is more of what the offense was supposed to look like. Be more physical and take some shots down the field. We couldnt run the ball effectively enough to win the game- but scoring 30 points on the road in the SEC against a decent team is a good day. Barbay needed to answer some critics and he most assuredly did. 519 yards of offense for you yards lovers. A damn good day at WR by Mr. Tulu. Just never know what ya gonna get with this offense
4. 1st possession of the game the TE misses his block on Split Zone Right to put us in 2nd and 15. Terrible. Got behind the chains and had to punt. 2nd drive Rogers throw to Thomas was badly underthrown. 3rd drive we finally score. This is what I was talking about when I said 2 could have some success in this offense. He got it down the field and got some air under the ball. Explosive play finally. Goede's hold cost us 7 points and then ohhhh my lordddddd. 2 throws a pick that was just f'ing awful. 4th year guy cant make that mistake. That was really bad.
5. 2's play was solid I guess. His lack of arm strength shows at times. Him dunking the ball into the ground rolling left makes me sad. That was hard to watch. The fumble. The terrible interception. But he did get the ball out and to where it needed to go a good bit. He is what he is. The ball floats but he did get it downfield and on target a few times. A couple of drops hurt- Mosely especially in the 4th. But he did have 10.1 per pass and that is soooo much better than the Airbone dump offs we had to watch his first 10 years at QB.
6. Defensively? It's not coaching. We lack team speed- especially in the Secondary. Our Secondary is SWAC bad. That 1st TD pass by SC Morant was free and not covering anyone and still couldnt make the tackle from Safety. Poor route to the WR and no closing speed at all. Looked like the Coyote chasing the RR. Daniels and Rattler completing passes at a terrifying rate is just ridiculous. But now I see why we get such deep drops by the LB's in zone- the Secondary needs all the help it can get. We really miss those CB's. They disguised alot of weakness.
7. Jumping offsides to extend their 2nd drive was just bad. Again- that's not coaching because the guys are taught to watch the ball. That is just stupidity. Turned 3 points into 7 there. That mistake coupled with Rogers bad pick and its 33-33 in the 4th Q most likely. Huge mistakes.
8. Page's whiff on their wildcat TD run was bad. Get low and drive thru the guy's legs. Holy crap. We have got to start jumping more underneath routes at LB to stop some of these big play dump offs. Use your instincts. Damn. Did I mention we are slow on D? 4 at CB is bad.
9. Overall we played more physical on D- held them to 3 ypc. 4 sacks and 9 TFL's. We are just slowwwww on D and its going to hurt us all year. It's hard to be good on D with a slow back end that cant cover. But here we are.
10. Last night told us alot about who this team is. It's not as bad as people thought but it's far from being a good team. Fortunately in this year's SEC- you dont have to be great to get wins. I think we will give Bama some problems because they struggle to throw the ball consistently. Question is- can we give 2 enough time to make some throws against them? The under is probably a good play this coming Saturday. That's what is great about college football- just never know what ya gonna get. Box of Chocolates
