This has to be the worst drought in a long time. I haven't had a good rain in Madison in 8 weeks and the 10 day forecast isn't looking good. On the bright side, I haven't had to mow grass at all in 8 weeks

Not looking good short term either. Continued warm and dry with low(ish) humidities. Those burn band are in place for a reason. If this continues, look for them to be expanded.

No it doesn?t look good because Oct. is the driest month of the year, historically. I always waited to Oct. to paint my house for that reason. No rain in sight for a long while. :(

At my house in Madison, we have had the following rain amounts this summer (I have a Tempest weather station).

September .86”
August .05”
July 4.1”
June 7.61”

It is dry here though. August drought and extremely high temp, are not a good combination.

I swear it rains in middle Tennessee every day. For a while there, I thought it would flood at anytime.

We are over in Lowndes it rained cats and dogs a couple days last week. Like all day rains. It surprised me when I discovered it rained no where else.

Same in NW AL too. My yard is dead and ground is powder. This summer I was mowing every 4 days with all the rain now nothing.

Mid-September thru October is typically the driest time of year for Central Mississippi, so I wouldn't expect much relief unless a tropical system comes up thru the Gulf.

We bought some big cedar tree type things to plant behind our house in the hopes of creating a natural fence but the nursery said don’t plant them yet wait until fall and the wet season…. So far, no wet season. I’m out watering them still in their pots every afternoon for about an hour. It’s a first world problem but it sucks. Although it’s nice not needing to mow.

It's crazy. Driest I can ever remember in Madison. My daughter lives in Birmingham and they get rain almost daily.

We live outside of Little Rock and I can't remember the last time we got a good rain. It's been drier than I remember.

We don't get rain daily (about 100 miles north of Birmingham), but we've had plenty. And summer temperatures have been below normal, in contrast to pretty much the rest of the south west of the Alabama/Mississippi line.

I’m in central Mississippi. I’ve had 0.25 inches in the last 2.5 months.

In Flowood, I've had about 15 minutes of rain since July 4th. Crazy, my water bill was $300 last month. I have stopped watering the lawn. At the hunting camp near Greenwood, they've gotten much more rain.

Hate to say it but it may take a Gulf Hurricane to get us rain. The Summer long High Pressure that has covered us will not get out of the way.

I've only had a trace amount at my house since the beginning of July.

My farm hasn't seen significant rain since July. Been several fires north of it. Got farmer friends that are losing their asses but looks like a drought declaration might be coming to help.

You could walk across the Pearl River at I-20 and not get your shoes wet.😂😂

I don't know. But where I'm at we are finally getting our biggest multi hour slow soaking (not flooding thankfully) with some rumbling thunder.

What a great damn evening it is. To sit under my covered patio... Drinking bourbon with my wife (yes she drinks bourbon stronger than you bench press sucker's) while eating quesa-Birria and AL pastor tacos. Watching the gentle rain come down with thunder and lighting as the temperature falls to the upper 60s for the first time of the year.

Man this is beautiful.

The 00Z GFS is putting a major hurricane in the Gulf the end of the run. I say that to say this...that has a reliability rating of 0.000000001% and I wanted to get that out there before all the click bait sites get a hold of it and start making posts about a massive hurricane going to hit. If it survives and the 06z update shows it then the fear porn sites will be all over it like a fat kid on cake. Ignore them.

Only good thing I?ve noticed about this drought is I?ve only seen two mosquitoes the entire summer! Only two. Maybe a hurricane would bring us some rain in southern Hinds county.
