It is all about NBC. If NBC sees it a a good business decision to NOT give Noter Dame exclusive consideration, as in the past, they stop the cash cow. That is hey Noter Dame, we NBC expect you to get in the BIG10 to support our investment. That is not to say that NBC adds a few additional crumbs to get ND compliance. BTW, if Clemson or FSU were to get one of the remaining 2 BIG10 spots, NBC could just forget who ND is? That would be a big money loss for ND.

I don't see why Notre Dame would join a conference. They have their own TV deal and basically their own national network.

If anyone at that school recommends joining a conference, they should be fired on the spot.

Why anyone outside of the ND fanbase cares about what ND is doing or is considering doing is beyond me. They are basically irrelevant to the SEC.

Irrelevant as far as competition yes. As far marketing, tv share and revenue potential they are a big boy at the big boy table.

they will never have a shot at anything near a title without joining a conference. just keep the ca$h flowing and who cares about winning

Where is that reply going when NBC tells ND that they are not going to renew that exclusive contract, Apple Streaming? NBC will direct ND to the BIG10 because NBC is ND overlord in the end game.

WHy would NBC push ND to a conference? NBC would lose the TV rights at that point. Notre Dame can find plenty of non conference opponents. Why would NBC not renew that contract its been a great deal for both. NBC is paying a fraction of what FS, ESPN, or CBS pays. NBC pays 22 million for the rights to ND games. The big 10 got paid over a billion a year for their TV deal.

NBC only had Noter Dame as a college football client in the past. Now NBC has the BIG10 as a client. One is like a BIG10 army and the other just a ND platoon in the end game of monetary value. NBC is going to get the premium college football prime time Saturday time slot just as it has the prime-time NFL Sunday slot. That is NBC business model. In the end game scenario, NBC benefits with Noter Dame in the BIG10 because it will be included in the giant media package and NBC will cease to pay out ND individually. Now if NBC wants to show a lot of Noter Dame in prime time that is their prerogative.

If Noter Dame does not like the NBC mandate, it can attempt Disney/ESPN to accommodate itself which is highly unlikely because Disney/ESPN are struggling with money issues. I personally think that Disney is going to divest from ESPN and that will put the SEC media contract at risk so that is not an avenue for Noter Dame.

When CF evolves to the Power2, ND will be on the outside looking in and that could be bad monetarily, for them, in the grand scheme of things determined in New York Disney/ESPN and Los Angeles/Fox, NBC, and CBS.

So was Texas. ND gets less and less a big deal every year.
