Believe it or not, Tina was more popular outside the States than in America. No solo performer sold more venue tickets, globally, than Tina. Not talking tickets sold in America. Talking butts in seats, not records or downloads.

Yep, she actually lived in Sweden I believe. Really big in the UK. She's lucky she escaped Ike Turner's years of abuse.

Yeah, Switzerland where she lived. She was from Tennessee. She was one of the biggest music legends IMO up there with Elvis, Michael Jackson, Whitney, etc.

Maybe one of best live performers ever. Amazing life and such a great attitude facing adversity. I hope to see her in eternity. At 80 she looked amazing in 2019.

The US Navy ordered me to a forward operating site called Site One Submarine Squadron 14 at Holy Loch, Scotland from December 1970 thru April 1974. Prior to that I knew very little about Tina Turner. The Scottish and British nightclubs along with Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Zurich fixed that lack of knowledge real quickly. BTW if you look at the picture to the left you will see most of my unit minus three when I coached at Southwester JUCO in San Diego. I schooled the boys on Tina Turner as well as the secondary back in 2009. Cheers

I had the pleasure of meeting Tina while @ MSU. Was working as backstage security as Music Maker's hired the MSU drumline to earn some extra cash. We were security for several shows at the Hump.

My assignment was guarding Tina's dressing room door. Only she and her assistant were allowed in. No problem says the 6'2" long-haired drummer with a Metallica t-shirt. :cool:

Tina was whirlwind, running from stage to dressing room and back all while having a completely different outfit. It was old school performance in terms of hard work plus talent and desire. I was very impressed and actually became a fan from just watching her backstage. Sounds cheesy, but she was a total pro.

After the show, I was the doorman for her and her entourage and held the large exit doors open while she was walking out of the Hump. She stopped immediately in her tracks right in front of me (and her entourage almost collided) and looked up (she's only 5'3") and said "You can laugh, if you want to." My lame comeback was 'Ok, thanks', wish I said something wittier. I think she was just imagining what this young heavy metal kid was thinking about this whole ordeal. Mind you, this was the "Private Dancer" beginning tour and she was one of the most popular singers on the planet.

Anyway, that's my story.
