Looking at last year versus this year

2022
26-30 record
106th RPI
41st schedule strength
9-21 conference record
17-9 nonconference record
174th nonconference RPI
275th nonconference schedule strength
12-26 in Q1 and Q2 games

2023
20-14 record
25th RPI
3rd schedule strength
3-9 conference record
17-5 nonconference record
39th nonconference RPI
72nd nonconference schedule strength
9-12 in Q1 and Q2 games

So we are in much better shape than last year. We need to make up some ground against Ole Miss, Auburn, and A&M. We have to survive against Tennessee, Arkansas, and LSU. We can?t go 1-8 against those 3. Our RPI and schedule strength should be fine. We just have to get some conference wins. If we go 6-3 against the easier teams and 3-6 against the tougher 3, we would be 12-18 in the conference. I think that would put us in a regional.

Thank you. Gives clarity. Still think Foxhall needs to go, but think we will be ok if we can upgrade talent and some tweaked tactics in pitching.

The freebies are the problem. Errors, walks, wild pitches, and hit batters. Too many free bases given up. We can’t stop the stolen bases either.

Yeah.

First things first. Step 1: Get to Hoover. That means you have to finish at least 12th in conference. Then play it from there. But that is first and foremost. And that's no gimme. Last year Mizzou missed Hoover at 10-20 in conference play. So better plan on needing 11-19 to get to the SEC Tourney.

First things first is beat OM this weekend. Don't do that then no chance at the rest.

You are correct about that. First step is Friday/Saturday. Get one of those and then second step is Sunday. It is little bitty baby steps at this juncture. Sad but true.

Agree, lose the series this weekend and the season is all but over.

I agree. But clearly the season isn’t lost. There is a realistic path to a regional. We just have to execute.

And looking at pitching stats, we actually aren’t that bad if we could cut down the walks. We’ve allowed innings to extend. We’ve turned solo homers into 3-run bombs by walking 2 guys. We’ve run up pitch counts. The walks are absolutely killing us. When you turn on the TV in the 4th inning and we’ve given up 6 runs on just 3 hits you know we have a problem.

I've gotten off the "Fire Lemonis" train for now as long as Foxhall goes.

It generally takes more than 12 wins. 12 is possible but need to win tourney games probably

Not sure that comparing final RPI to midseason RPI is apples to apples.

With SEC teams RPI matters very little as long as the conference wins are there- which would be 13.

Yep. Focus on the 25m target then the 300m and 500m can begin to come into focus.

The program is back to 2008 level. Just looking to scrape into Hoover to hopefully get to a regional.

I had hoped these days were in the past

Our RPI says we are in good shape if we can get some wins. Just win and we are in.

After the run leading up to 21, I thought they were but proved wrong again.

I am 100% sure it’s not apples to apples, and I made the comparison. The point is that we are in much better shape than last year, with a tougher schedule. And several metrics show we are in a far better position. Obviously we have to get some wins,

At the very least I don?t think there is any doubt we played a much better nonconference schedule this year. That is helping our RPI a lot. The Arizona State series win specifically has aged well so far.

At this point, what difference does it make <insert Hilldog gif>

OM sweeps - too much optimism based on Alabama series

I've gotten off the "Fire Lemonis" train for now as long as Foxhall goes.

I was told something that is somewhat concerning last weekend that I'm not sure I believe. But it was from someone who does have a finger on the pulse of the program. They are pretty confident that nothing happens with Foxhall or Lemonis this year. If we miss Hoover again then its going to be disturbing to think the entire clown show will return for another year of milking MSU for high dollar paychecks. I'm not convinced that is the case though.

I think it is definitely possible Foxhall is let go but I have never wavered in my belief that Lemonis will be back next year.
