He also had 2 K's and a grounder to get out of the inning if Alford wasn't a just god awful 3B. Either get out of the way or charge the ball. Instead he runs in the way of Lane and then let's it go. Holcombe just needs Foxhall to come out and piss him off and he starts pitching better.

Admire some of you guys" optimism. Y'all always have hope to turn things around in baseball, like I hope the team can do in football in virtually every season I have lived through except maybe Tech and 10. I have been as critical of our baseball as many for the last season and a half. Don't know as much about baseball as most of y'all but had this thought:

We have lost, 1-8, against the top 3 teams in the East to date, nationally ranked. Maybe that has been a big part of a poor start to this season. Maybe we can kick butt against our Western foes and turn this around. Disclaimer: Still have to improve pitching, coaching staff's handling of pitching staff, improve terrible defense, and get more hitting with RISP to make this happen. But quoting the inspirational Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber, "So there is a chance". Hail State!

I think we have a young but talented team with a bad pitching coach.

I know Lemonis got roasted during the losing streak for saying the first 11 didn't count because they happened last year. But he did have a point. This is a different team. And it is possible that our problems were compounded by the above plus who we played the last three weeks. South Carolina pounded on Skenes tonight.

We probably have to win 13 SEC games to be on the bubble for a regional. A lot of work to do. But off to a good start as far as making up ground starting tonight.

Defense was lackadaisical and cost us two of those runs. Given lee way that if we just bring in guys with a clean inning in the 4th and 7th, I think that saves us another two runs. 4 runs is the bar. If we can hold teams to that then this lineup should win 9 out of 10 times.

You know what's sad? We allowed 8 runs tonight and we're talking about how much better we did with the pitching staff.

And it's legitimately true.

If we didn’t have such a big lead you bring in Dohm or even Nixon to close it. With the lead, you play to save the staff, doesn’t matter how many you give up. You save the staff. Dohm was up at the end, but no sense in using him. A 12-8 win is still a win just as much as 12-5. At this point we just have to win no matter what.
