Mike Gundy has a great solution

He suggests that a kid signing a scholarship has the option of 1 one year, two-year, 3 year or 4-year deal in a contract. It would help schools big time with the portal and NIL.
It's a way of controlling the school's rosters, same with the Nfl signing players.

Something needs to be done and I like his idea.

I would assume it's similar to the NFL. A one year deal means you better perform immediately or you will be cut as compared to a guaranteed 4 year scholarship deal.

Yeah, there's some risk on both sides here. But the NCAA will never, at this point at least, tell a student they have to stay somewhere or not be on scholarship.

Security would be the incentive, but you'd probably have to set it up with options on both sides to really make it work. So maybe the player gets a one year deal with "x" NIL and a player option to renew at "x" each year for the remainder of his eligibility. The team gets an option to renew each year, with say 1.15x NIL the first renewal, 1.5 x the second renewal, and 1.75 the third renewal, and 2x the fourth renewal. If the player is doing well, they are guaranteed to get more NIL money. If the player gets hurt or is just not good, he has the option to continue getting the same NIL. If the player wants more NIL money and the team isn't willing to pay the additional NIL to exercise their option, then they can negotiate.

You could structure this all sorts of ways depending on how much the initial NIL is and how much risk the player is willing to take, but that would at least be a way to guarantee a player some security and NIL money and also give the school some protection that they won't bolt as soon as their NIL value goes up. This structure would technically be illegal under the current NIL rules I think, but it's probably not any more illegal than the deals already being made. Just a little more of the illegality specified on paper.

Being that most elite prospects have Twitter Accounts, they can easily communicate in regards to the Black Lives Matter issue in which the head coach has represented that Black Lives DO NOT Matter. This could be a bad point of evolution that could destroy a program when Black elite prospects, with coordination, shun that program. That T shirt was a symbol and a statement. If you were a black prospect would you want to expose yourself to a coach who has truly exposed himself in that manner? The potential damage to the program for years to come was the reason why Gundy was sanctioned by the University. That T shirt could have cost the University millions of dollars if proper damage control was not activated. That is the true end game whether anyone agrees or not. Other programs are praying that Gundy will further open his mouth or wear similar attire to help with their recruiting?

Veiled Statement. Gundy did not like the George Floyd BLM evolution and he made his statement thru his attire. That is why Oklahoma State University saw it that way and sanctioned him as a form of damage control.
