Barnes got Tenn to tourney in year 3
Pearl got auburn to tourney in year 4
Williams got aTm to tourney in year 4
Oats got bama to tourney in year 2
Wade (realize he's gone, but still good) got lsu in tourney year 2

These are really good coaches. We have a really good one also. The jobs Jans and gates (mizzou) did this season are quite impressive

Totally agree especially when you realize how hampered we were on offense. Watching last night, I said multiple times "How did we make it this far?" - that says a lot of Jans.

Big time.

He may be the best X and O coach we have ever had. I think we will be in the tourney mix often under Jans, our ceiling will be determined by what kind of talent we can add to the roster.

Bring Tolu back and add a couple of guys that can shoot and we are a Top 25 team next year.

you could say that Jans did the best he could with the hand he was delt.

Agree and good post. Talent wise I think Jans potentially inherited better than some of those coaches.

I'll add one more thought. Moore and Davis came into form this year and was a pretty good backcourt - a lot better than most would acknowledge, partly how dominant Tolu was down low.

Yes and no. They both have the potential to be really good on a given night, but were not super consistent. To make matters worse, we had absolutely nobody else behind them. Reed and Horton were failed experiments.

I want Davis and Moore back next year but am really intrigued by the potential of our backcourt if we have those two + Fort + Hubbard + another transfer or two.

Our game planning and x's and o's looked better than previous coaches. I also thought our set plays out of timeouts were tons better than I've seen in previous years. I know we lost last night, but we got a great shot on the last play.

What about Tang Hamilton's son? He had some pretty good hype behind him coming out of HS. Can he get some quality minutes next season?

We just have to keep him. Time to see if State is serious about athletics again.

The X's and O's part I think wasn't talked about nearly enough for Jans.

How many open 3's did we miss this year? Over 100? 150? Jans got us into looks that gave us a ton of open shots and our shooters didn't make them.

The final play he drew up was really good. The pick play for Matthews on the alley oop was too. He consistently came up with ways for our guys to score. And he also had a well established plan on in bounds plays which at times looked absolutely brutal under Howland.

I really like Jans, he has the potential to take us far. He has to go get us some good gaurds though. I've said it for the longest and see it watching all these games, you have to have good gaurd play to get far. We didn't have that this year, Shak had certain good games, Davis was ok but we have to go out and get perimeter guys. Hubbard was a good start

Hubbard was a good start

If Josh Hubbard is not a plus defender he will not play. Just like Murphy and Hamilton.

Those guys likely transfer out.

Jans did an outstanding job with no shooters. Hopefully he gets it done in recruiting.

This may be true but there are alot of good offensive players in the NBA who don't play alot of defense: Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Trae Young, these are some of the best gaurds in the league and aren't defenders.

I'm not saying defense isn't important because it is and it won us games but you can ask any successful coach in basketball and at the end of the day they will say you have to be able to put the ball in the basket to be successful and we lacked that this season. It has to be a balance of both, defense will only get us so far.
