Loftin off to nice start, 28 pitches through 2 innings.

Dakota Jordan back in the lineup batting 5th.

Mershon in the line up as well playing 3rd and batting 9th.

0-0 after 2

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:35 PM
Here we go. We have 2 hits not scoring through 2.
0-0.

Mershon?s first at bat, smokes on directly to short. DP.
Still great contact as his first at bat.

Lord McBuckethead

Got to love the lead off 7 pitch walk.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:37 PM
Need a big DP here. Nope. Infield hit. Pitcher slipped.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:38 PM
We?ll lead off walk gives them a run. Didn?t see that coming.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:40 PM
Down 1. Runners on the corner after a 4 pitch walk.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:40 PM
Valpo doesn?t have a hit yet they lead and are threatening to score more. I have a feeling this guy is going to get a hit here.

Down 2 now

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:43 PM
Hit the plate. Wild pitch scores another one.
Down 2. Pitcher gets the strikeout to end the top half of the third.

Man, 2 runs score on junk. Pitcher slipping should have been an error too.

DawgFromOxford
03-07-2023, 07:43 PM
A double play both innings has kept us in check unfortunately

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:44 PM
I am a tough scorer though. No way would I give the hitter an infield hit when the pitcher slips. That is a fielding error.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:48 PM
Batters need to sit back on these pitches.
80 mph junk thrower. Just sit back and wait for one inner half on righties.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:49 PM
Second pitch to Hancock should still be in the air.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:52 PM
Holding Chance with that shot down the line is criminal. Of course we hit a fly ball to CF to miss out on scoring.

Leroy Jenkins
03-07-2023, 07:53 PM
Every time Jordan comes to the plate there are 2 on and 2 out, and then the inning is over.

I've never seen anything as infuriating as this team. Hits are 4-1 in favor of MSU but down 2-0 in runs.

magrooder
03-07-2023, 07:56 PM
That was a good series of pitches for the strike out by Loftin

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:58 PM
Lofton missing the plate now.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 07:58 PM
All Valpo has to do is just hold off of all off speed pitches and they all will walk.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 08:03 PM
I am so tired of seeing weak contact.

Lord McBuckethead
03-07-2023, 08:04 PM
Clark just smoked that one.

Ledbetter with the rbi single

Really Clark?
03-07-2023, 08:10 PM
I am a tough scorer though. No way would I give the hitter an infield hit when the pitcher slips. That is a fielding error.

If he slips and at that point he couldn't have made a normal play on the ball resulting in a fielding error, then you can't charge an error. You are correct that a player doesn't have to touch a ball to be scored an error, I do it all the time but once the slip occurs before being able to make a normal play on the ball, then it has to be scored a hit. Now if he slips in the process of making the play on the ball directly and touches it or is very close to the ball, then that can be a judgement call for an error. Obviously that also depends on if the batter/runner would have made it safely regardless of the slip. That situation would be a judgement score whether it was an error. I score pretty hard and do official books for JUCO.

I have a question. If we are going to use an electronic strike zone to grade umpires then why do we need human umpires calling balls and strikes to begin with?

somebodyshotmypaw
03-07-2023, 08:25 PM
Loftin is improving. Lots of potential.

Because sometimes a strike can be off the plate. Craftiness has a place in the game of baseball.

That's bad though. Let's fix it.

I absolutely believe that the college strike zone should be enlarged maybe a half to a full baseball width in every direction but apparently they are using the standard MLB strike zone to grade these college umps.

Every level should have bigger plates. And bigger bases. And real grass. And real dirt.

It happens when you have a pitcher filling the strike zone.

Fully agree. Our coaches did not have this team ready to play out of the gate at least in the pitching and defense areas. It's not a talent issue.

This is an instance where I don’t like the run rule. Because we only play 1 midweek game, I would like to have pitched some guys in the 8th and 9th. Maybe young guys like Gibbs, or some that need some work like Stinnett or Hunt.

Lord McBuckethead

Mershon is a ball player. He's going to be our starting SS by end of year.

Really he needs to be in all different positions 2nd, SS and 3rd to give our guys a day off.

Today he was 2-3 with a walk. Bunt was beautifully done, smashed two to the opp field and runs well. He made every play in the field that was needed. Strong game for that kid.

I would have loved to see Gibbs, Logan (not Lane) Forsythe, Cole Cheatham, Stinnett, and Hunt working the 8th and 9th. Young guys that aren’t ready for pressure situations yet, or older guys that need to work out some kinks.
