View Full Version : Furthest Homer You've Ever Seen Hit At DNF

The Kellum blast this weekend got me thinking, what's the furthest homer you've ever seen hit at DNF? In game it would be either the Dalbec homer in the 16 super regional or the Kavades homer in the 21 super regional. Batting practice wise, I watched Harrison Bragg hit one with the wind blowing out that cleared the stadium to dead center by 50-60 feet.

David Hayman hit one in practice that I thought would land in the middle of Highway 82.

Kavadas Homer. That was a straight bomb.

The Notre Dame dudes' homer went about 1.5X higher than Clark's and went a little bit further by about 40 feet. It was a smash.

I saw Brad Winkler hit one about as far as kellums and Castoria hit one way over the lounge but that dude from notre dame hit the longest I'm sure.

I didn?t see Kavadas in person but that?s probably it.

Another one many may not remember, but in the supers against Clemson, they had a guy named Andy D?Alessio (I think that?s his name). He launched one about as far as Kavadas at the Old Dude.

For a while it was Frank Thomas. There was even a marker on the field house behind the ole Dude

Frank Thomas no doubt! It went out above the lights. Talk about a Bomb! Btw, not a HR at the Dudy, but the late great best 3rd baseman in Msu history, hit one out in the Sec Championship game at Vandy. Ball bounced off the gym in Left, plus they used wooden bats in those days! Just saying.

Also not at DNF but I saw Castoria blister one in Tuscaloosa around 40 years ago or so that was a mammoth blast. N.D. dude's was about as big as it gets though.

Frank Thomas, Bo Jackson, Bruce Castoria. no one else even close to those 3. Frank Thomas was 500 +

Del Bender, about 1977. Over the light standard in left center. Moon shot.
At the time, there was no Shira Fieldhouse beyond center, and it was truly cow pastures.
Don't know if the ball was ever found...

Am I remembering correctly that Bobby Dalbec hit a ball way over the left field lounge in that super regional loss to Arizona?

It was rising going over the lounge. It probably cleared those bathrooms by 50 feet.

I know that Brent Rooker still talks about it too. When Rooker is impressed by your college HR....

Been watching MSU baseball since 1970. Will Clark hit the longest HR I have ever seen. Drove one over the current road outside the park in RF. It landed in what is currently the parking lot past the road. Then rolled down the grass hill all the way to Chadwick Lake and into the lake. Some kids chased the ball and retrieved it. Estimated HR distance was right at 510-525 ft. 2nd longest one was by Bruce Castoria. He hit one on top of the old restroom in LF, then bounced down to the track stadium.

Joey Belle hit one out of the stadium at the old Dude. Not just over the lounges, but completely over the back fence in left, beyond where that old bathroom building was.

I agree! I was at that game. I was sitting on my motorcycle in the left field lounge. That was back in the day when you could just drive/walk up and sit on the incline/hill in left.

Ted Milton had a bunch of monumental shots back in the day. Of course I wasn’t there but Pete Young would always rant about some of them. That was also with wooden bats…..

I did witness the Note Dame shot in person and it has got to be my vote. Due to moment and atmosphere of the stadium.

Hard for me to say because I've seen so many but some of Castoria's shots were unreal. Remember several going over the lounge.

We've got some pop. Clark's Sunday was 451. Alford's today was 460 and Jordan's was 474. Colton Ledbetter's HR today wasn't hit as far as those because it was a line drive but the exit velo was 117. Jordan's was 116.

Brian Wiese hit one dead center that hit the waving flag, well behind the CF fence (mid to late 90's) And Jody Hurst or Tracy Echols hit a mammoth shot very similar. I was young and can't remember which one it was. Around 90-91 ish.

That was a hot bat and minus 5. But your point is true on Weise. I just don't count those.

Dakota Jordan is a phenom, at least physically. How we got him to campus is a mystery.
