Houston said they are running the 'Mike Leach' offense when asked if they were air raid. They were really moving the ball and ran a lot of vert routes and 4 verts. Makes you wonder what could have been if we'd had a vertical element to the offense. Kept the safeties back and corners couldn't just sit on all of the underneath stuff. Silver threw 2 bad picks. 1 into a cover 1 robber straight at the safety. It's only week 1, but I'll be following them and watching when I can.

I'm not trying to start a KB21 thread or anything. I fully understand there were no qualified air raid guys after Harrell took a job and Kitley denied us. I'm on board with Barbay and want to see his offense. It's just interesting to me to see it at this level.

If they moved the ball must've have been against a crappy defense** ha

Can their QB throw it more than 20 yards downfield?

Lol, yeah he can sling it a bit. I really think Rodgers was hurt this year or something. When teams went man or 0 last year he threw it down field and burnt them. He's that Troy QB that beat LSU. I'll be curious if teams throw a 3-8 at them.

The OC there- AJ Smith is someone we probably should have looked at hiring. He coached under Hal Mumme and June Jones and has a background in the run and shoot and Air Raid. Coached at Jackson State under Tony Hughes and played some high school ball i Mississippi for a short time as well.

I'd have to watch film but I'm guessing he has blended the two styles together so you get a more vertical game going along with the attack space of the Air Raid.

When you have receivers that win match-ups and contested catches you can call the offense anything you want. To have this, the OC needs a match-up mentality and develop that skill. As for schemes, I know many high school coaches and some pop warner coaches that all have the same scheme printed out off the internet? Mesh plays are all drawn up the same pop warner, high school, college, and NFL? Add to all the DCs that have the same print outs and all of a sudden, a scheme just does not mean what it used to? There are no print outs to figure out match-up miss matches.

Rogers was not hurt this year. He doesn't have the arm talent to throw the ball down field. I would place him 14 out of 14 in the SEC in arm strength and around 7 out of 14 on accuracy in 20 yards or fewer throws.

Yep. Mentioned him at the time. He's really a smart coach.

I would have gotten behind him 100%.
