I'm having a hard time understanding how you have D1 players on scholarship that cant shoot a free throw at 50-60% min! I know post players even in the NBA traditionally don't shoot a high percentage but even our guards struggle to make them....... I'm disappointed that my daughter(who is a SR in HS and D2 level college prospect) is only at 75% this season..... I mean FT should be the easiest part of a basketball players skill set.... you just shoot-shoot-shoot and shoot some more to get good at it. Its all muscle memory...

It's not always as simple as repetition. A lot of otherwise great interior players lack the specific hand-eye coordination needed to hit a basketball shot of any significant range with any consistency, seemingly exacerbated in many cases by abnormally long wingspan (hence big men often struggling more than others). I always think back to an episode of some sports science show where they put Sasha Vujacic on stilts and gave him gloves to simulate Shaq's proportions and had him shoot a ton of free throws, and he still hit around his very high average, proving it's not just muscle memory.

All that said, our MBB team free throw percentage is abysmally and inexplicably bad.

Maybe the whole team needs to go see an eye doc.

It's a mental thing at this point; it's in their heads. You can see it when they toe the line, especially in the early stages of the game; they're sphincters tighten to the point that you couldn't drive a 10-penny nail in 'em. If they miss the first couple or so, it's all over from there on out. If we ever get in a tight game, all the other team has to do is start fouling us and the game will be lost, and the opposing coaches know this. If they need anything, it's a psychologist.

It's not just the f/t's, although that is obviously horrible by any standard. I've seen girls jr high church league teams shoot better than that. Problem is much larger though. They play hard but there just isn't much talent there. We may be the least talented team in the whole league. Not one shooter in the whole lot.

Good post. Everyone is pointing to free throws (rightfully so) but that isn't the only thing lacking. We aren't very talented and our offense is very boring.
