Sounds to me like these guys are just trying to save face.

It?s embarrassing to say that you?ve been told or realized that your football playing days are numbered. When you know there is a younger player or a transfer about to take your spot a lot of these guys don?t want the embarrassment of going to the bench. So instead they ?declare for the draft.? We know and they probably know in their heart of hearts they aren?t going to get drafted but that?s not as embarrassing as getting benched on the college level. That?s my theory.

In that scenario youve laid out who's taking his place and sending him on?

We wanted him back. Just to clear up the benching part.

He's probably going to end up coming back when he gets his grade. He's not getting drafted.

He was going to be a starter next year. Nobody was taking his spot.

Man I'm all for our players getting the bag, but I'd be very surprised if this guy is draft able as of right now. Solid tackler but liability in coverage. Especially with NIL feel like it makes way more sense to come back and get your 50k and improve your draft stock.

Duncan is integral to our defense. I am sure he is just getting out there to get a grade and to get some feedback. He needs another year, and hopefully uses us winning 10 games next season as a spring board with his 25% increase in production stats to a solid draft spot.

When I saw him come into the game, I felt like the underneath stuff was effected. Hope to see him back next season.

If not, hit the portal as there are 5,000 players to choose from***

50k????

I am just guessing but if we are really paying will 400k (LOL) I would think any starter is getting like 35-50k

Lord McBuckethead
12-06-2022, 02:36 PM
I mean at 50k, why are we providing him a scholarship? 50k would cover that and we would have another scholarship to offer, right?
Is this where this is all going?

Jackie Matthews declared for the draft just now as well.

I would assume since he is declaring for draft and forgoing the bowl game then he has no intention of returning. otherwise, he would play bowl game and then declare.

I think people that are commenting "not a big loss" or whatever, have not been paying attention and are thinking this is the same Colin Duncan from 2 seasons ago.

This kid was damn good player and very underrated.

I don't think he gets drafted in the first 5 rounds, maybe a late round pick if he tests well. The guy is a great college player and he will be missed.

Just glad our front 6-7 will still be nice.

Jackie Matthews was out of eligibility anyway. The CL guy that reported that he had the option to come back was wrong. His MSU bio is also wrong. He started juco in 2017.

This Jackie was done. The covid year really made it hard to keep up with who still had eligibility left but Jackie's is used up.

Sometimes declaring early means your expediting the end of any remaining football play.

Yup. This is exactly the type of player we have to convince to stay in the NIL era. He's a good college player and not likely an NFL player. We have to be able to convince these type players to play out their eligibility and enjoy getting a lot of minutes and being big man on campus while putting a little guaranteed money in their pocket. Some of these players will surprise us and leaving earlier will get them one more year of good money in the NFL, but the majority of them are going to end up ending their careers earlier than they had to.

What happened to the safety transfer from Michigan or FSU that came last year?

They are both going to factor into the safety job next year. Morant from Michigan is a little ahead of Washington from FSU, from what’s been reported.

Well there's also NFL practice squads, CFL, XFL, and USFL. None of these however, probably pay as much as the average college players, many straight out of HS!******

What other losses do we have that could have been prevented? Other than Cam Young. Jevon Banks is gone too

Banks should have stayed. He won't find a better place. He might find a place that guarantees him more time. But not sec. Not close

Which that scenario has to change. There is no reason a player that is in the draft, that doesn?t get drafted, shouldn?t be allowed to play his remaining eligibility. That is a damn stupid ass rule. Like fumbling out the endzone stupid ass rule.

Really Clark?

Man that doesn't look feasible. With early signing period / transfer period and trying make a roster with scholarship numbers. A second transfer period now. Draft is held then you have limited number of ships for transfer guys and non-draftees. They will still be a lot of players without homes. They don't have to have to sign with an agent and can always pull back after they get their draft grade, that's always an option.

Or just choose to stay in school and get their degree, that's worth more money for their life rather than quitting school and not getting drafted. You know they are making adult decisions and can deal with adult consequences. Personal responsibility for their decisions is not a bad thing either.

I also declare for the draft.

Reminds me of The Office episode where Michael declares bankruptcy.

Duncan has as much chance of getting drafted as i do. So i am also declaring for the draft.
