We got some momentum. 8-4 ranked, 4-4 sec, third in west, beat om, Florida New Years bowl, lot of talent coming back! Now go win the bowl and it will have been an outstanding year!

Illinois is 2nd in the FBS allowing only 264 YPG, and 1st in allowing only 12.3 PPG.

Their offense is putting up 388 YPG and 24.54 PPG, both middling. Their RB Chase Brown is 2nd in the FBS with 1,643 rushing yards.

Illinois played Michigan very closely, losing only 19-17 in the Big House. On the other hand, they lost to 4-8 Indiana and 5-7 Michigan State. Their best wins are Iowa (6-6) and Minnesota (8-4).

I would rather have faced UNC. Let our offense end the season on a high note

Illinois is #20 in the FPI, 2 spots behind us. By FPI, we would be a 1.4-point favorite.

If our defense can contain Brown, we probably win, but it might not be pretty. On the other hand, I don't think Illinois has faced an Air Raid team all year.

I don't think that any of these 3 are really running the "Air Raid," but Illinois has faced 3 teams this year who are have at least 66% of their yards coming on passing this year.

Purdue, Michigan State, and Indiana. Illinois lost all 3 of those, and 2 of them have a losing record.

I guess now we get to see who plays and who opts out for each team.

Purdue is probably the closest thing to an Air Raid team they have faced. Illinois did OK against them holding them below their norms in a home game for them but they allowed 31 points and lost.

Illinois looks similar to us scheme wise on defense. They like to blitz and confuse you. We'll see how they play us- blitz us or go zone?

Illinois DC, Ryan Walters is from the Barry Odom coaching tree. Coached under him at Memphis and Missouri.

Maybe Adidas will come up with a MSU version of the Old School Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniforms for the game?
Maybe it would be something to wear strangely different colors for this one game only?

Did not know that. Makes me think we may see rush 3 drop 8?

We played them in 1980 in Champaign and won 28-21 when I was a senior in high school. My bff reminded me about that game. Both of his parents were Illinios alums.

I suspect we will see a Barry Odom scheme / game plan to at least start the game.

Many were in Vaught years when they wouldn't play bama and were winning at least 10 Better Homes and Gardens and Southern Living National Championships. Betty Crocker had the deciding vote in both polls!*****

Knowing their track record, they probably had to vacate 15 of them.**
