Saturday's too. Started a few years ago. So dumb. I'll never go to a game other than a Friday night unless my son is playing in it.

I played in a few Sat night games bot that was due to Us and Biloxi High having home games the same week/ Ole Notre Dame lost out.

There's a ref shortage. They have to do it to have enough officials.

The ref shortage is national. It is acute in major metropolitan areas. I get contacted as a retired junior college football coach. I keep telling them that I am stiff because i am in my 70s. They keep contacting me anyway? The shortage will affect the quality of high school football and expect it to move up to the college game?

There is and has been at "Ref" shortage in the SEC for some time, qualified ones that is. No shortage of those from bama, however!**

Ref shortage is real. We have had 5 man crews instead of 6 for half of our games. It's hurting HS football.

When did the MSHAA start playing games on Thursdays?

Because there is not enough refs to handle all
The games when the smaller schools start playoffs. No other reason

Way too many teams get into the playoffs.

I've seen several games where they've been training officials on the job. Was on the sideline a couple weeks ago at a school and the line judge told me they had never done it before.

I asked a local high school coach this week about it. He said it was because of a referee shortage. I said “well based on the way you treat referees, it’s understandable why nobody wants to do it”. He sheepishly admitted I was 100% correct.

In the smaller classes yes. But the higher you go the harder it gets

It's not just football it's in baseball too. To many crazy coaches and parents. People just don't want to take the abuse for a few bucks.

That is true you get two wins in the division and you're in.
