My son is dating one of them, and she is a great girl. It is crazy how much training they do and the amount of PR they have to do in their off time. Really is a whole different world.

My sister was a cheerleader for the 1980 team. Their training was nothing like today.

Do they get scholarships?

My daughter was a cheerleader at MSU during the Matt Wyatt era. She worked for UCA for several years. Traveled all over the country judging cheer camps and leading cheer camps. Her daughter my granddaughter tried out for cheerleader at MSU last year and didn’t get chosen. Granddaughter is now friends with a lot of the now cheerleaders and she sez she’s glad she didn’t get chosen because amount of work they put in.

They are on scholarship but it is not “athletic” scholarships. Has nothing to do with grades either. It is more of a grant. It has a name much like the one for Webster County students.

I was shocked by what they have to do for game day, there are so many PR things they have to do and it usually starts around 0400 regardless of kickoff time. They also have a bunch of restrictions on them as far as what they can and can’t do. She is always either at the gym or “tumble practice”.

It is kind of bullshit the stuff they have to do. NO reason why they should be doing anything required prior to 3 hours before kickoff.
