Of all places, Marks...? Had to be because they had money from a grant.

Or, you know, because blues and r&b and jazz and gospel were born in the fields of plantation owners and share croppers.

Marks is one of the most depressing places i have ever been through.

It would be cool to see the area this music came from, but I would have put it in Memphis. At least here you wouldn?t be shot, probably.

I still would have put it near the Redbirds stadium near Beale Street if possible.

Be thankful it wasn?t Friars Point ?.Marks is not a ?safe? place, but there are far worse places in the northwest delta

Watched a tornado go past from the intersection in Marks few years ago. Pretty much my only interaction with it.

Not a wise choice for location. At least Cleveland or Claksdale. I think I'll open a river casino in Issaquena County, who's in?

Is that the one that wiped out the Dollar General?

No. You're thinking of the Tishomingo tornado. This is the one right before Christmas that ended up hitting Holly Springs.

The Grammy Museum in Cleveland is a fun stop. Maybe the two museums can create some combined activity that encourages people to visit both.

Article below is worth a read if you think this thing will ever be built or become a tourist attraction...

https://www.augustachronicle.com/story/news/2020/07/02/rb-hall-of-fame-founder-pitched-idea-to-8-cities-before-augusta/114773742/

If that doesn't do it for you, did this part in the OP's link not send up red flags?: "The foundation says it will take 30 million dollars to build. It has brought in some partners to assist with funding, and it’s currently conducting a GOFUNDME campaign to help complete this project."

A GoFundMe to complete the $30 million project?? LOL

Exactly. Cleveland has the Grammy museum. Indianola has the bb king, Clarksdale has the Delta blues museum, greenwood has the museum of the ms Delta. You'd think maybe Greenville (actually has flights to Nashville, Nola, etc and has the riverboat tours) or even Leland (though they have the Kermit the frog museum).

Marks? Middle of no where that isn't off any major highway or has any kind of major traffic.
Yes I get the Delta but come on.. Yazoo city is at least close to Jackson.

Or Tunica. At least there you already have some casino life and Hollywood Cafe. Easy access to and from Memphis.

That would make too much sense

Wow. With more details, this seems like a giant boondoggle. It raises the question: if it is not really going to happen, then who benefits from talking about it?

This is just a $500k favor with our money. A lot of it will go to consultants that are connected with the politicians pushing the grant. Some of it will go to people in Marks, but not very much.

ETA: This would be a good thing for Shad White to focus on. Probably not going to get a conviction on it but could at least put a spotlight on the political mechanics of how we hand out $500k just to hand out $500k. But not politically profitable.
