What are these pad like items on the players helmets? I started noticing these a few years ago and now they are more prevalent at all practices. Are they for concussion prevention or something else? They look like the insides of the old Riddell helmets I wore in the late 70s.

Begs the question everyone asked when Wes Welker had that concussion reducer helmet:

"Well why aren't all the helmets like that?"

If you want to stop concussions then just ban football of learn how to not to use your head.

Yep. Get rid of the helmets. Players will instantly stop leading with their heads.

After seeing a player break his neck against my team in 1978 I never used my head for any contact again. That doesn't include the facemask/
