At JSU ... being reported by Saturday Down South. Sorry for not being able to link ... Can't remember what kind of recruiter he was but it seems like I remember him being pretty good at it.... then again it could be my fading memory .

Good thing there is internet media.... otherwise MSU wouldn't even make the sports section of the CL with Jackson State becoming the most interesting school to everyone.

Who was his biggest recruit when he was on Mullen’s staff?

So Leach isn't winning the Egg, bowl games, OR the publicity? I thought winning publicity and press conferences was his biggest pro. Remind me again why we went this route? He's boring, our team is boring, and we are fading further from relevance under him after years of becoming more relevant. We need a surprisingly big year this year, because another meh season and we won't have 30,000 in the seats and damn sure won't be able to recruit better

This year is the year. This needs to be a 2006-08 Texas Tech type of season or I'm off the wagon. I like Leach. I have defended Leach. With that said, it is time to see the magic unfold. It's time.

I have a feeling this is Leach's last season. I just haven't seen anything to make me think he's gonna win here.

#1. Cohen should already have a short list ready.
#2. If we do have a really shitty season with this much returning on both sides of the ball Leach should be "urged" to gracefully retire to Key West.

I haven't either, and I was initially excited about the hire, but that changed pretty fast for me. To me he just doesn't seem like he's excited to be a Head coach, I know he has a different personality but where's the fire? He rarely disputes bad calls, seems non chalant on the sidelines and will never deviate from his dated version of the Air raid that hasn't really worked. He seems more interested in teaching college classes or talking about the best foods to eat instead of trying to win football games.

Fred Ross? The only others of note are Donald Gray, Bear Wilson, IIRC.

When has Mississippi State won? Mullen had some good years (best in history), Sherrill?everyone else had one or two good seasons. We?re mid to low tier and that?s it.

This is the season Leach will be measured by. I love Leach. I am pro-Leach. However, with what we have returning on both sides of the ball, plus keeping the coaches, this should be one of THOSE seasons. We screw the pooch in two or three games and wind up 6-6 Leach should be firmly asked to retire. We have a seasoned, veteran team. This is the year.

Only in Mississippi do coaches downgrade so far:

Mike Dubose - head coach of Alabama becomes head coach of Millsaps
Hal Mumme - head coach of Kentucky becomes head coach of Belhaven
Mike Markuson - Oline coach at Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Wisconsin becomes Oline coach at JSU
Tim Brewster - assistant at Texas, Mississippi State, Florida, FSU, Texas A&M, San Diego Charges and Denver Broncos becomes assistant at JSU

and the coach who dropped the furthest:
Lane Kiffin - head coach of Oakland Raiders becomes head coach of Ole Miss

So what is a successful season for everyone to keep Leach? I don?t think this is his last season. My list of a successful season is

Top 25
Egg Bowl Win
8-4 or better
Bowl game win.

Since the conference changed in 1992- and the SEC money started rolling in- we have been middle of the pack SEC instead of a bottomfeeder we were before that

Yeah- this is his shot at 10 wins. Anything less than 8-4 and he will never do better. NIL and losing a ton of players after this season will just pull him and us down

He's gotta good staff and experienced roster returning coming offa 4-4 with 2 Shoulda Couldas. 3 if you wanna count the Egg we laid uhGAIN. We should have Way more than a Chinaman's Chance in all but 2. If we get to rolling, our NIL Dept needs to put in extreme OT dialing donors for dollars cuz that's when The Cigar Boys' Wallets start loosening up. Gonna need a nice pile of Portal Cash at season's end.
