Sorry if it doesn't imbed cuz with my youtubes it's hit or miss. Punter Breaks tons of tackles prior to taking it 109 yds to the house.

First State game I took My new wife to, the punter punted the ball backwards over his head. She also said that I hope our player runs the punt back. I told her we just hope he doesn't fumble the punt. Yea I have watched a lot of State football since the 60's.

I remember a game in the 80s vs Kentucky at Scott field. Kentucky had 4th down. Evidently we called return block. Because all of states guys ran down field to block for the return. Kentucky fully intended to punt. Punter Looked up and saw nobody and took off running. I don't recall exactly how far he ran but he got the first down before we even turned around.

Was that the Tim Couch game I was at where JLD lined up 11 on the LOS causing a KY TO? Don't think I've ever seen anything like it. I L'dMAO. Couch looking over to the sideline with WTF arms raised while Mummy & CO scrambling around like confused headless chickens. Another Legendary JLD Event. Good or bad past stuff, would love to have a beer with him.

NO. This happened in the 1980s. I can't remember the year but well before Mumme and Couch. ...and Jackie/JLD for that matter.

If you pay attention to the defense on punts, you'll notice the punter almost always could run and get 10 yards if he just pulled it down.

When I was coaching high school football, Reggie Bush's school was our hated rivals. We would pay close attention to Helix High School Football. Buy the way, Alex Smith, the NFL guy was the quarterback for Helix also. Reggie Bush was an above average punter for Helix. When ever Helix would punt, Reggie would take off if he saw a return being executed. The word got out and opponents would line up in base defense cover 3 and just drop the free safety as the return man. Reggie had two rushes, for touchdowns, from punt formation in his own end-zone: go figure?

Posts in this thread got me thinking that maybe exploration of well thought out and planned fakes that limit risk are worthy of discussion.

Thought I'd support your post with some video. This is not my team playing against Reggie, it is Oceanside in the CIF Div 2 title game which is comparable to the Mississippi 5A championship. It shows Reggie showboating especially as a punter. BTW, the following year, my team Monte Vista, beat Oceanside in the semi finals and Helix in the Championship. It sure helped matters out with Reggie at USC and Alex at Utah?

Would love to see the video of Johnnie Cooks walking up and telling the Miami snapper an unmentionable only to see him snap one the punter?s head in the end zone. One of the truly Great Dog football moments. Without doubt one of the greatest DOG victories of all time against Jim Kelly and a bada$$ Miami team.

Thank you for that cuz little guys like me who only contributed being an alley cat at 2nd base appreciate football and basketball stories from these who made the show that my not enough ass couldn't. My dad was 6-2' Tall @ 220 Lbs and I end up 5-6' 145 lbs. I woulda slaughtered Rebs had I not been screwed on size based on a maybe not so healthy childhood hatred that still grows stronger daily of all things Ole Miss Slave Owners.

I was there. I remember being against the chain linked fence when Cooks came within a nose hair of knocking Kelly into Neverland who took the sideline safety route right up to my face. Sumbitch was uh huffin' & uh puffin' at top speed using the fence to break his gallop. Right in my very young face. I coulda pistol whipped dat SOB. Instead I shouted "Your Lucky!!!" with our faces only inches apart . Jim Kelly is a helluva man and I grew up with Hull in Greenwood and all those Bills that were always flying down to duck hunt and hang with their Anchor and Brains of that unique at the time offense is a special sports story. I was the number one student in Mr. Staten's Geometry class and Kent sat next to me. I helped a lot of friends cuz this was a tough class as several failed that class. For some reason all I had to do was listen and take notes. I blitzed the final exam high on weed with a 102. I was a proof and theorem juggernaut. Kent only asked me something once or twice despite sitting directly next to the Ace. He was a DAMNED Good Student. I was the first fan he embraced after the fake fumble pile up of the 6-3 Game. "We did it (my name) !!!" then proceeded to lift my then 120 lbs ass up in a bear hug that scared me a little. Kent had grown some since high school.

Not sure about his family but my Greenwood friend surprised me about 2 yrs ago when I was there with his presence knowing that class was the top educational experience of my life capped by sitting next to Kent all year. He was looking GREAT for his age and getting to see and visit with him after 40 years was such an awesome gift from my friend. We were just hanging out at the airport he owns (you may know who) and out pops Mr Staten from his pickup. I bout shit on the spot.
