View Full Version : Ole Miss Baseball Elimination Watch

So OM baseball won 14 games, D1 says they are 3 seed.

But

Alabama (12-17) has won two SECT games and Kentucky (12-18) beat Auburn and plays Florida (15-15) for their season tonight.

Alabama is now 40 on RPI and OM is 39.

Kentucky is 52

They will get in? I doubt we would have got in if we had won 15 SEC games.

The biggest thing to watch will be if any teams that weren't expected to get in the tournament end up winning their conference tournament.

OM needs the chalk to hold.

Coach34

A couple of upsets by teams not expected to get in could make it interesting- but I think they are in. 32-22 and 14 SEC wins is a Tourney team unless a Bama or somebody like that starts winning some conference tourneys

Ole Miss will get in as a 3 seed, but their success will be dependent upon the regional. SEC will get 9 in and possibly 10 if Bama keeps making a run

By RPI - the 8th to 11th best SEC teams

#25 Florida
#39 Ole Miss
#40 Alabama
#52 Kentucky

OM has 14 regular season wins, that has been enough in most seasons. Kentucky has 12 wins, I don't recall a 12 win regional participant

Seems like there was one a few years ago that was 12-17(got one rained out) that had a high RPI or whatever term they used back then. I think they also made a run in the Sec tourney though, so that probably gave em a boost in a down year for other leagues

Agreed. The last 4 years no sec team
with 14 wins has been left out and historically it's been almost a sure thing as well. Its the best conference in baseball and why 9-10 teams get in every year.

Bama got in at 12-18 last year.

Prob will get in again this year. They were 12-17 and are now 14-17, same record as OM and they swept OM. Plus Bama Strength of schedule is top 5, much higher than OM.

USCe or Kentucky if they fail to make it again. Either would be prime landing spots for Bianco.

We need to hope they keep him though. They might luck into a good coach like Link Jarrett. McDonald is not taking that job and Godwin does not scare me AT ALL. Jarrett scares me A LOT. In fact him and Cann would be the only two coaches that would scare me there.

McDonnell will probably go to Ole Miss if Bianco is let go. I am more confident he will be their coach though than his ability to do much better than Bianco. I think the results will be fairly similar but maybe a trip to Omaha once in awhile but I don?t think anything fantastic.

McDonnell ain?t going to Ole Miss. Dude was wearing a MIssissippi State Polo at the CWS last year and his wife was wearing a t shirt. Him and Lemonis are very VERY close. He ain?t coming here to be in this rivalry.

Quit believing everything they say. Every year at the end of the season it?s always McDonnell is gonna be our new coach? blah blah blah? I don?t understand why they think he would drop everything he has built and come there. Dude was just an assistant and went the the Ville and built them along with Lemonis. Why do they think he has this emotional attachment to them?

Out on the basis of Pitt being alive in the ACC, with Kentucky and Alabama milling around Hoover. OM is under threat, but Pitt is a long shot with a bad RPI. As I click, Bama is tied 6-6 with UF.

If missing the NCAA ends the Bianco administration, how do we feel about this?

According to D1

LAST FOUR IN:
61. Alabama
62. Ole Miss
63. Old Dominion
64. UTSA

FIRST FOUR OUT:
65. Clemson
66. San Diego
67. Pennsylvania
68. Pittsburgh

D1 has OM in the Miami v Louisville pairing

I see OM in Hattiesburg, the Rebels maintained an RPI inside the 40s.

I think that's from earlier this week. Today's projection had OM as one of the first 4 teams out. That was before several other bids were stolen. It doesn't look good for them.

William Tecumsah Sherman

Todd4State
05-29-2022, 10:51 PM
With stolen bids remember a lot of times an automatic bid just takes that conferences bid and not the bid of a SEC team.

In other words Louisiana getting a bid probably means that some other Sun Belt at large won't make it.

Personally I think Auburn getting a host bodes well for Ole Miss.

I could see USM winning their Regional, LSU?s pitching situation is pretty rough. I have a hard time seeing OM making it out of Coral Gables. Recent history has shown that how you do in the SEC Tournament matters very little. Unless a team like Alabama won it and got the automatic bid.

Yeah while rpi is important it's more important to teams not in the sec. When you play baseball in the best conference in the country the conference record is looked at more than rpi. A 14 win sec team has proven they deserve to be in.

The Sec has many good coaches, one more ain't goanna matter, it's the best conference in the country top to bottom. Adding Texas and Oklahoma will make it even more competitive. I don't think we will see any one team or program dominate like Bama does in football.
