Drag your operating system to your trash can and click empty trash.

Purchase a Mac.

Yep. I wish my office would do that - but government doesn't work that way. I'm all Apple at home and have had zero update and virus issues since we switched 7 years ago. Still running a 7 year old Mac while I've been thru 4 computers at work.

First thing you need when you have a Windows PC is a good backup system. I use the free version of Macrium Reflect but there are others available. When Microsoft issues Windows Updates, they are using users to basically tell then what is working correctly and what is not (quality control). I haven't had any issues, with the May updates, because I have them deferred until all the glitches and bugs are resolved and I get the OK to download them from the AskWoody website. I have been using that site for several years for my older PC, that I converted to W10 from W7 and my newer PC which came with W10 and I have had no issues with update glitches and bugs. If you download the updates when Microsoft issues them then it is just a matter of time, and not and if that you will have some type of issues or it bricks your PC. The AskWoody site is a donation (I went with this method because I think I receive the benefits to justify it) and a free site, with a lot of IT Pros on it. When the manager, who is an IT Pro, feels that it is safe to download the updates or there is a security risk where you need to she (Woody has retired) will give the OK to do so. I think it's a lot of other good info on there, in addition to update info. If you can access the internet , you may want to visit the site and read some of the info, or even post on the message board (free subscriber) and say what issues you have experienced with these updates and can anybody help you. I have no financial interest in the website, and it doesn't benefit me if a new member joins but I thought it may possibly help you, and I don't have the IT expertise to help you hopefully solve your specific issues.

1st rule , never save anything to your hard drive without at back up.

2nd rule, make damn sure you follow rule 1

We have servers where everything is stored. Only the software is on your laptop or desktop with no saved files.

Then that server is backed up every day as well.

If you have a PC at home, get yourself a Hard drive and back up your stuff there, i guess you could get a online backup system so you could access it even if your house was burned to the ground. Even an Apple is subject to house fires.

It's the same with using Debit cards. Don't do it. Get a couple credit cards and pay them off every month. You can earn points and if there is ever a bogus charge, they don't have your money tied up in disputes. The 2nd card is in case your main card gets compromised while traveling and put on hold for awhile.
