They're probably going to have to go back to sitting out 1 year for a transfer, or this is going to be every star, every year.

OR ... less drastically, let schools and players sign multi-year agreements that says that player can't leave (without sitting out a year) until the contract is over, and the school can't cut the player either as long as he remains enrolled. That way, a star could demand a 1-year deal only and transfer at the end of it without penalty, but at least the school knows going into it.

It won't be long before MSU's next Dak or OM's next Corral are targeted in their junior or senior year. Heck, we already had to fight off LSU in basketball. We're gonna be highly disappointed in the next couple years when our players are poached away.

If some governing body, and it will probably have to be the SEC since the NCAA is spineless, does not step in and provide a possible solution then college athletics will never recover. I have said since the beginning of NIL that if the players want to be treated like pros then that is perfectly fine. The flip side to that is that when the sign scholarship agreements with a school it is for a set number of years. Whether that be one or four, but if they attempt to transfer before the expiration of the agreement then they have to sit out the remainder of the agreement. Whether it be 6 months or two years. Coaching changes or extremely special circumstances(think immediate family member seriously ill) would be the only way to get out of the agreement without penalty. This also means that the school could choose to cut you and pay for the rest of your schooling through the duration if you are not producing. We went from schools having all the power to athletes having all the power. There has to be give and take

Define irony. As long as ESPN is making money, the portal is viable. If ESPN stops making money, they will not be able to pay the huge TV contracts, so most teams would not be able to afford to shop the portal.
