We're 6-9. 15 SEC wins is the goal, but I think we could sneak in with 14. So let's say we take 2 of 3 this weekend. That puts us at 8-10. We'd need 6-7 more wins to get in with this remaining schedule.

I love following and watching Mississippi State baseball, probably too much and boy this year has been tough. Really not a fun brand of baseball to watch between the high number of walks we hand out and the all or nothing approach at the plate. There's just not a guy that you're waiting for the lineup to turn over to get to the plate because you know he's gonna get it done. There's flashes of hope with Yeager and Hines... He is moving his hands mid swing to where the pitch is pitched and making solid contact. Any of our hitters would be 0-3 with 2 weak pop ups and a roll over ground ball, unless they struck out.

Go watch lsu hitters and their approach/adjustments. That?s how you are supposed to hit. Short, quick swings and hands directing the ball. Have to use your top hand to place the ball where you want it. Wherever the palm of the top hand is at contact is where the ball is going.

So our guys that?s usually up in the air because we drop back side or roll over ground balls because we roll our wrists around the pitch. Instead of pushing top hand through the pitch. So frustrating to see if happen over and over and zero adjustments or hitting instruction.

Eta. One of the best drills to teach this is using a whiffle ball on a tee. And taking your regular swing while using your top hand to slap the ball. Inside, pull gap. Outside, oppo gap. Then proceed to regular ball off tee and move tee from inside to outside.

Will say that this approach really helped me stay through the hall playing golf and start hitting it straight. Same concept. Slap down on the ball and create backspin on both sports.

I love following and watching Mississippi State baseball, probably too much and boy this year has been tough. Really not a fun brand of baseball to watch between the high number of walks we hand out and the all or nothing approach at the plate. There's just not a guy that you're waiting for the lineup to turn over to get to the plate because you know he's gonna get it done. There's flashes of hope with Yeager and Hines... Cumbest has been good. Outside of that, this lineup has seriously underperformed.

Hines, Yeager and Cumbest have me expecting something to happen when they come to the plate. Others not so much.

Lets face it TA and Rowdy last year were a rare pair when it came to clutch hitting and big plays. Last year in big moments, I was almost cocky at times and they would come thru. That don't happen much. Jake was same way.

We had a similar drill to your whiffle ball drill except we used tennis balls. We threw the tennis ball and the batter had no bat but had to throw his hands at the ball and catch the ball with both hands with 8 fingers toward the ball. We also did soft tossing from behind the batter and they could not look back. They had to react to the ball to make contact before it got past the hitting zone. These were 11-14 year olds, though so just some drills we tried to get their timing and focus better. None are in the pros so probably messed them up badly.😂😂😂

8 might be enough, or 8 plus a win or two in Hoover. That?s a tall order in and of itself though. And we actually have 15 SEC games left. The Governor?s Cup does not impact the SEC standings but it counts as a conference game for NCAAT resume purposes, just like the games in Hoover do.

Still think you can possibly survive a series loss this weekend if you win the Governor?s Cup and beat Mizzou and Florida, IMO. Really need to find a way to go at least 2-1 in these next three games against OM, anything less than that is going to be incredibly tough to come back from.

The home sweep against LSU is what really has us behind the eight ball. The other four series we?ve played had largely acceptable results, I can even justify us losing two in Oxford this weekend if that were to happen. Going 0-3 at home against a somewhat average LSU is a big stinker, and it?s something we?ll have to make up for if we somehow want to make the NCAAT.
