I?ve have always wondered why they don?t use live pitching more for batting practice. So as not to over work the pitchers with throwing breaking balls and change ups, have several behind the screen ready to swap out, lefty and righty and throw breaking balls and change ups until the batters hit line drives.

His lazy ass approach behind the plate is why he does not frame well. If he gets out of that stationary position, he can move over instead of having to stab at the pitch. That call is as much on him as the ump.

Injuries, ACL and hamstring eventually ended my college career when I had just learned the game and figured it out. Goal has been to retire around 45-50 and then hopefully be a hitting instructor or coach. The injuries allowed me to spend the games with pitching coach. Was constantly asking questions and learned how to hit, thinking like a pitcher.

It?s hard to believe we do not practice hitting breaking balls. I think it is more of a hitting approach or instruction. You have to develop a different mindset to hit offspeed effectively. In short it?s a look away, react in approach. The mindset has to be offspeed is coming, I?m going oppo gap and keeping my hands inside the baseball. This keeps you from over swinging or pulling off of it.

There are some really effective tee and dry drills to develop this mindset and swing. From what I see we do not teach or use them.

When the coaches are throwing BP from 40 feet behind a screen they are not throwing breaking balls. The only time the batters see breaking balls other than real games are inter-squad scrimmages. 2 ABs in a 5 inning scrimmage ain?t getting many reps against Breaking balls.

In other news: Cam Tullar is a meat ball pitcher. And Brandon Smith and Jackson Fristoe ain?t much better. But 2 runs against Sunday pitching through 8 innings- is not good.

Yep, anyone coming out of this weekend feeling better about our team is a true Pollyanna optimist. Seeing the fact that only major heroics prevented us from being swept at home by a below average SEC team combined with what Kentucky did to Georgia, things are looking pretty rough.
