I think I'd rather have Andy Kennedy.

It's a no for me, I doubt SC is ready to fire him yet. His best days are behind him.

We all would. He's gone 4 postseasons in a row though without any, NIT included

Martin hasn't been any better at South Carolina than Howland's been here, apart from two fluky weekends.

Is there no one available that doesn't feel like a Dukes of Hazzard villain, used car salesman at a buy-here-pay-here lot, who also sells frozen steaks door to door in his spare time?

I would love 2009 Frank Martin. But I have watched Ben Howland, a coach most on this board berate on a regular basis, coach circles around this version of Frank Martin for the last 5 years. And I watched it again Thursday night.

No to Frank Martin.

Howland made 3 so by that logic, we should keep Howland.

I do think Martin is a good coach, not sure how much going forward he has left or if he is a good fit here.

Yeah, if Howland doesn't cut it, Martin clearly doesn't either.

Martin is a much better coach than Howland he just can?t recruit at all because of his demeanor. I would certainly take him here over Howland because he actually gives us hope we can get past the quarterfinal of the SEC tournament and get to a sweet 16 even if his players are Rick Ray level. At the same time I would rather get a mid major coach that is winning at a school with a talent deficit.

No. Why can't we do like we did with Mullen, Lemonis, and the new WBB guy and hire someone young that isn't beyond their prime? Just like Howland and Leach, Martin's best years are well behind him.

You've gone off the rails. Thornwell, Silva, and kotsar were hardly Rick ray level players. Why isn't Martin doing it now with players better than ray's?

They were all 3 star players. Thornwell might?ve been a low 4 star. A lot lower than Howland?s recruits

We need a young coach that will push the ball up the court.

Here is the thing. If all you want is someone who is going to shoot 50 threes a game then just go get Paul Westhead. The System is exactly what you are asking for. We will score 100 most games. The flip side is we will probably still lose but hey, we will shoot some threes!!

Edit: For those that do not know, which is probably more than a few, Paul Westhead coached the Lakers in 79 and then coached Loyola Marymount in the late 80s. He had two players from Philly named Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers that in todays game would be electric. They were about 25 years too early.

What a coach does at one school doesn’t mean those will be the same results at a different school. Hell, Dan Mullen should have taught you all that.

Need young blood with energy not a failing retread.

You gotta inject life into this program. It's dead. We need someone that will push an exciting brand of basketball. To energize the fan base get someone who will focus on the perimeter to almost a detriment. (Basically right up to the point that Matt Painter at Purdue is at. Running 4-out and 1-Low even though he has two top 10 bigs in the nation.) Recruit kids with high energy for defense and willingness / ability to make 30+ footers. Need about 3 of them to rotate. Then you're creating an exciting brand.

Why did he stop? What makes you think he can start again?

If I recall I think some allegations came out that he abused someone verbally and after that those 3 stars he got didn?t even happen. I am not saying he would be my first choice because he can?t recruit at all, but he would be an upgrade as a floor coach than what we have had since Richard Williams. We just need to go a different direction than a recruiter because that doesn?t work here to get state past a first round appearance. I know we have a terrible basketball history and I don?t expect us to make some big splash hire, but we know that just being a recruiter doesn?t work. The only thing that worked so far was a Richard Williams type who is a good floor coach. I am not saying we should hire Martin. I am just saying we need a floor coach and not worry so much about the recruiting. Buzz Williams is a terrible recruiter but is a great floor coach and that is why he has aTm in the title game

Ben is 64...Martin is 9 years younger at 55. Martin brings some fire- something that is really needed in this program

Excellent post and it?s hard to find these anymore.

I think it will be the Murray State coach or the Wichita State coach if my sources are any good.

I?m all for hiring Martin as long as we hire a strong recruiting assistant and give him good money to stay to at least get high 3 star or low 4 star players. Martin is an awful recruiter so he needs to let someone else handle that and then he handle player development and on court coaching. Without a top recruiting coordinator we will have Howland results but a lot less talent
