Are they firing him?

I don't know.

44-48 in the last 3 seasons with a dismal 13-19 record this year, I would have to think they are considering it. But some folks around here would be elated to hire him.

I'd be all for hiring him as an analyst.

Disappointed, I thought you were giving good news that OM was keeping him assuring they will never rise up in basketball. Bad news if they fire him.

I'm honestly surprised he failed to maintain the initial uptick he had going. Yet his record against us is?

State passed him over for Rick Ray. He has never turned down the State job. Nothing traitor about him. Cant blame him for accepting a million dollar pay day

We have always out recruited OM in basketball, but the sad part is we don't dominate them like we should. Stans actually beat them often, Howland on the other hand has a losing record against them.

Rick Ray wasn’t the choice but in 2012 neither was Kermit. Kermit record going into 2012 from when he was hired at A&M through 12 seasons was

201-171 record
1 - 20 Win season
1 - NIT appearance
0 - NCAA Appearance

So no it made no sense to hire Kermit in 2012. Just because Ray stunk doesn’t mean Kermit was the answer.

Rick Ray was a complete unknown with no SEC ties.

Kermit went 27-7 in 2012 at Middle Tennessee and won the conference. Had State ties

Any AD with some sense would have realized one of these would alienate people and the other could possibly keep some semblance of unity in the program.

I mean- Butch Pierre would have made more sense than Ray did. Especially after us being turned down a few times as we were due to the stench around the program. Hiring a guy with State ties could have helped.

So 1 good season in 12 years equal SEC job? Hell no! Again Ray was a disaster. The correct answer wasn’t Kermit Davis. Saying he’s better than Ray doesn’t exactly move the needle.

1 good season with a conference title (plus he had had 2 really good seasons at Idaho as well) is heads and shoulders above what we hired. My problem has always been with the choice we made. Made no sense then and still doesnt.

Idaho?? You mean in 1989 & 90? 20+ years ago from 2012. Congrats on finally winning 20 games in his 10th year at MTSU. He went 9 years at MTSU without winning 20 games. He has 1 good season where he didn’t even make the tourney & he deserved a SEC job? Again HELL NO!!

You keep saying he was better than Ray. Well hell I was better than Ray. Being better than Ray doesn’t equate a good hire. We would’ve just fired Kermit to hire Howland instead of Ray. I guess there’s that.

3pt shooting % ranks

Mississippi State (345th)
Southern Miss (304)
and Ole Miss (233)

Is this like the lack of skill players in football? It has been 20 years since I kept tabs on MS High School Basketball but is the style of play not keeping up with modern basketball? Didn't these kids grow up watching Steph Curry and realize you have to be able to knock down the 3?

Oh we sign players that shoot the long ball but they are centers who want to be Step Curry.

Oh I get you on the Ray hire. It’s 1 of the worst I’ve ever seen in P5 history. There’s no excuse for that. What I’m saying is Kermit getting fired after 3-4 years at MSU too. The only reason he gets an extra year at OM is because he rode AK talent to a tourney his 1st year. His 1st year at MSU he doesn’t have any of that.

Kermit is nothing special. He caught lightning in a bottle at MTSU. Glad he?s degrading the OM program.

Who can’t wait to hire Mike White whenever he fires Kermit. OM couldn’t get Pitino or Miller to come to Oxford. Cohen has an elite program to sell that’s his baby. Carter has arguably the worst job in the SEC. It’s not a comparison.

Because unlike hiring a Butch Pierre or Kermit- he had no ties to State. At least Howland came with a rep
