I think too many are trying to compare this year's pitching with last year's pitching. We are going to have some issues, as will every team. We don't have the unlimited roster like was allowed last year. So every team will deal with that.

Last year we had 24 different pitchers throw for us. That number is unprecedented. The roster doesn't have that this year. So far, through 7 games, we have used 14 different pitchers.

Pitchers lost from last year are Will Bednar, Christian MacLeod, Kole Alford, Dylan Carmouche, Chase Patrick, Houston Harding, Carlisle Koestler, Riley Self, Eric Cerantola, Jaxen Forrester, Xavier Lovett, Spencer Price, and Davis Rokose. So we lost 13 pitchers that actually logged innings last year. Obviously some pitched very little (only 6 of those 13 pitched more than 10 innings). But Bednar, MacLeod, and Harding were 1, 2, and 3 in innings pitched last year (followed by Sims and Fristoe)

All teams benefitted from the deep bullpens last year, and all teams will not have that depth this year. So things are going back to normal. Last year we were just all spoiled with the unlimited arms.

So last year was the anomaly. Things will now be back to normal and there will be some issues. But every team will have the same issues.

Yeah. A lot of years guys like Koestler and Patrick would have been major contributors every SEC weekend.

Heck- a lot of years Koestler would have been our midweek guy.

Lot of truth there.

Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, and everybody else will have the same issues. Nobody will have the number of bodies they had last year. We used 24 arms last year. That’s unreal. And that’s without using a position player on the mound (CT Bradford, Jake Mangum, Mitch Moreland, Reid Humphreys, and many other full-time position players have pitched)

No doubt about it and I believe we're in better shape than most depth wise.

Yeah. We appear to at worst have four starters and probably a closer in Simmons. With some others who could potentially emerge like Brandon Smith, Auger, and Tepper. And then there is the KC Hunt question mark.

I forgot that Pico Kohn has looked good too.

Kohn has been impressive so far.

We need Kohn, Walling, and Tullar to pitch well. We need some lefties.

Meh, losing Bednar and Harding hurts. McCleod to a point, but he wasn't good but about half the season. Those others didn't really help us. We still have most of the same pen. They just need to get it going & we need to find who we can count on for what. Again, it's just too damn early to worry about much. But anyone expecting this season to be last season is setting themselves up for disappointment right off the bat. Let this team figure things out. That's part of what makes baseball interesting. It'll all shake out by conference play.

Yep. As I said, only 6 of the 13 pitchers we lost threw more than 10 innings. So we lost a bunch of bodies that saw almost no time on the mound. But Bednar, Harding, and MacLeod ate a lot of innings for us. It will all work out. The main thing to remember is that every team is in the same situation. The unlimited depth in the bullpen was a 2021 thing.
