How insanely ridiculous is it that MS has 3 top 25 baseball programs, 2 easily considered top 10-15 yearly, and one that just won a Natty after living in Omaha the past few years? I know it?s always seemed to have been talk around football of what Mississippi could be if there was only one major university, but realistically, we would probably dominate baseball and contend in basketball. It?s just crazy to think about.

If Mississippi had one major university that dominated the state we would be a powerhouse in football, baseball and basketball. Think about some of those combined football recruiting classes between State and OM. It's crazy to think about that kind of talent on one Mississippi team. Cam Akers stays home instead of going to Florida State. Most of the Mississippi guys would stay home instead of having outstanding college careers at Alabama, Georgia and LSU. We would already have two or three Natty's in baseball. Maybe one in basketball with numerous elite 8 appearances. We would have had at least one Natty in football probably from the 80's or 90's, several ambiguous Natty's from LIFE Magazine and Field and Stream from the 50's/60's and maybe one more in the last 20 years.

I've yelled for years nothing gets better till we conquer and demolish the Confeds. The road to Appomattox shouldn't be as difficult as we've shown.

if 40 or 50 years ago an influential state leader had the vision to lead the meager of MSU and UM (keep campuses were they are and give it a new name, but with one sports program), we'd dominate in everything. Never happen, but fun to dream.

Another factor in the baseball angle is that most universities don't take baseball seriously, and I hope that continues.

USM has a solid program, but if you started listing the best programs in America they wouldn't land inside most people's Top 25.
Outside of 2009, they've had no post season success.

Way more care now than ever. Most of the power 5 does. A lot of other smaller schools are competitive and make runs as well.

Essentially would be Louisiana with better coaching. If LSU ever had a basketball coach who could count to ten they would have several ncaa titles, same deal in football.

I agree 100%. We just don?t really have the population. Think about this, we have 3 D1 schools- 2 P5 SEC schools, D2 Delta State and MC, D3 Millsaps, and 3 SWAC- JSU is legit- teams in a state with just over 3 million people. If we weren?t spread so thin, we could contend yearly in all the big 3. Hell, women sports, too.
