Why does a transfer player that didn?t start seem to get a decrease in rating? 4 star out of HS, spends a yr or 2 in a great program- better coaching, better nutrition, better training- and is considered a lower rating of like 3 stars when he signs elsewhere. Is it due to being behind another 4 or 5 star player?

To the extent there is any rationale behind it, it's probably that you aren't getting the potential upside. Every 4 star coming out of high school could potentially turn into a superstar that contributes three or even four years. If they get stuck on the bench with no playing time for two years, they're probably not a superstar and they definitely won't be contributing to whoever gets them for 4 years.

We have 2 receivers that were 4s that are now 3. 1 was at UGA. 1 at NW. UGA is DEEP with talent. Why drop him in rating? Banks came from Bama and while he was able to keep his star, he was dropped in rating too. I?d think both would be as good or better star rating on transfer. May not be a difference on UGA or Bama, but definitely has the possibility elsewhere.

Short answer, they signed with State. If they were still at UGA or Bama the rating wouldn't change.
