View Full Version : So Mike Leach and Bowl Games

So this is two years in a row that is very clear we were not prepared to play in the bowl game. What the hell are we doing wrong in our prep?

Last year we were sloppy the entire game and then got into a full bench emptying brawl that looked almost as bad as our game plan.

This year we show up at the stadium and let a B12 bottom dweller dictate the entire game on both sides of the ball. All three facets of the game went to Texas Tech. Our 1 TD was lucky based on our other 8 drives.

So, how do we get the team ready? I don?t know. The focus seemed to be on Leach and his past and not on our scheme.

Now with 7 minutes left, we refuse to throw the ball down field. Rogers just takes a 10 yard loss sack. Dang.

Dillion Johnson just lost it. That is par for the course.

The last 10 years he's 3-5 in bowl games and that counts his crappy win last year. Could be that when teams have that long to prepare for his air raid, it's pretty easy to stop.

Last year we upset a ranked team despite being only 3-7. Sounds like we must have been pretty well prepared.

I'm concerned about emotion games with Leach.

Rivalries, bowls, games against Top 5/10 teams. Where a coaches personality can influence a teams performance. He doesn't have that ability and I think it's why he's had issues in games like this.

The biggest issue I have is his ass has been out here hammering Texas Tech for all the money they didn't give him while he just laid a nationally televised shit show representing the university that currently pays him. He's got to stop that crap.

Not a good month for Leach. Wrong side of the opt out argument. Wrong side of the portal argument. Loses Egg Bowl. Embarrassed in bowl game. Makes 5 million a year for this crap show and is whinning about 2.6 million.

It was Tulsa. And go back and watch that game, we were terrible, Tulsa was just that bad. We were unprepared, terrible on execution, and made bone-headed play after bone headed play and got into a fight.

Some unexpected wins such as auburn coupled with inexplicable losses such as Memphis or TT. Then cap off an encouraging season with shit the bed in the bowl game. Wash, rinse, repeat

Bowl games and total offense...
2020: 60 plays 271 yds 4.52 per play
2021: 73 plays 344 yds 4.71 per play

Gross

Funny how people have been warning for months that the offense would take a step back when we replace our starting tackles, and then when they're proven right, they don't say "yep, that's what I expected" or gloat about it or anything, they're just furious like they're shocked.

I was surprised that we looked like shit even when the OL did their job. I don't know if the problem is that the pressure gets in Will's head or what, but it's concerning.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a team look well coached and look like shit so much in the same games. We do a lot of stuff that you don't do without good coaching, and we make a lot of unbelievably stupid plays that you rarely see on well coached teams. I kept thinking all the bad breaks were just that, bad breaks, but we have made our own bad luck consistently enough that you can't really chalk it up to bad luck anymore.

How many top 5 or even top 10 teams have we best say over the last 20 years?

Y'all still don't understand that until we decide to get serious and our fans start donate more money to the program this is what we are going to be.

We are apparently one of the poorest athletics programs in the conference when it comes to donations.

All I've seen on here is complaining, complaining about the coaches, boosters etc.

Now I don't know what is more concerning, the fact that we have grown men on here discussing how other grown men aren't spending enough money while probably only donating a couple thousand dollars a year themselves at most or the fact that some of y'all are so emotional and let your opinion of a program sway with the breeze.

Our bulldog club membership is embarrassing.

My piece of advice is if you aren't happy with the NIL money state boosters are spending, aren't happy with the money we spend on recruiting, facilities etc. then open up your own check book and cut a check.

We will get these same results, 6-8 win regular seasons with the occasional shot at 9-10 wins every 5 years until we spend more money. You get what you pay for.

You all expect champagne results on a keystone lite budget and that is just not how the world works.

Texas tech outspends us in recruiting by over 100k.

Let that sink in. If we were in the big 12 we would come in around 10th or 11th in recruiting budget spending.

Now you want to take that and beat top 5 teams consistently? Georgia over the last 6 years has spent over 10 million in recruiting, during that same span we spent about 2.5 million. At the time they took these numbers we were #50 out of 52 power 5 teams in recruiting budgets.

Ole miss outspends us consistently in recruiting by a pretty wide margin. They also donate and give more money to the university.

So yes, if you hate ole miss you can argue that leach and the team weren't prepared but we as fans aren't doing our part to help be competitive either. Bottom line either quit bitching or open up the pocket book.

It is an absolute shame when so called "amateur" athletics is all about money! Our budget is not as large as the Jones so we therefore can not compete. What the hell ever happened to going to a university because of the majors it offers, its academic standing and the coaches you actually play for? That is why I ultimately chose MSU over Georgia Tech and LSU, its Electrical Engineering department was rated #8 in the nation at the time. What a hell hole, college athletics has become!

This is why college athletics needs an overhaul from the very core! Take the pro-minded/capable athletes and put them in a semi-pro league separate from the university and let collegiate athletics return to "amateur" status - for those who want an actual education.

Does this "lack of recruiting budget" mean that there were 2 -5 star DT who were really sold on us, but bc the staff ran out of recruiting money we weren't able to visit them and they went elsewhere? Or did the 4&5 star DBs sour on us during their official visits bc we didn't have the Oculus Quest 2's?

You just described the Jackie Sherrill era. I know The Kang has saint status in the fanbase - but I had a lot of flash backs to Memphis State, Arkansas State, La Tech and 3 win LSU teams while watching us this year.

If you don't think money is the reason we don't consistently compete with and beat top 5-10 teams then I would love to hear what you think it is...

Yes, it sucks that college football has become more and more about the money but you won't change that the cat is out of the bag. You have to play and compete based on the rules allowed and we simply don't have enough people giving enough to consistently find ourselves in the hunt for a NC or even an SEC championship every year.

A lot of y'all also have this idea that we are a quality program that has no business losing to lowly Texas tech. Again, they spend more than us and have a history that is at the very least on par with us if not a little better. We are a Texas tech type program per the money spent and those are the results we get.

Hard to argue against this.

Our Bulldog Club is an embarrassment. Hemphill sucks. Why is the the Athletic Director of Basketball?

Do you folks realize how poorly run our Athletic Department is run?

Why is the head of Fundraising have another position?

How many of you in the BC actually hear from these folks other than getting emails about season tickets??

It?s run worse than the 💩Alumni Association and that?s hard to do.

All of this STARTS FROM THE TOP!!!!
