View Full Version : MS QB U

As I watch the Browns/Raiders, I?m watching Nick Mullen and it makes me wonder who would actually be MS?s QB U? USM had Farvre, who is the best career in my opinion
Mullen and Austin Davis
Alcorn makes the list because McNair is obviously #2 to the mustard buzzard?s number 4.
We have Dak, but while he?s a rising star, he has much to accomplish to beat out others.
OM has the Mannings, Forcade, and not much else.
I think the argument could be made that USM is QB U (heavily due to Favre)

Not sure I'm following correctly, but Tennessee had Peyton and he had a pretty good career.

Agree that it's USM, but don't think it will be after Dak retires.

They did but Ole Miss has Archie and Eli who both played in the NFL.

And Eli won 2 Super Bowls and made more money than any player in History

I?m sorry. I should?ve been more clear. Who is MIssissippi?s Quarterback University?

Agree. He and Archie are formidable in this discussion, but Favre is a first ballot HOFer.

Conerly was no slouch.

Ah, I forgot about him. Nice pick up. That changes my results. With Arch, Forcade, possible HOFer in Eli, and a HOFer in Conerly, that bumps them in front of USM.

I feel pretty confident you can go ahead and pencil Eli in as a HOFer.

Y'all need to throw Jackie Parker in there with Dak. 3 Grey Cups, 3 CFL MVPs, CFL HOF, Canadas National Hall of Fame. They even have an award named for him in the CFL.

Hey, that?s a great pickup! Man, he played EVERYTHING in the CFL except waterboy! (Gotta admit, I had to google him, but still) it?s a great name drop. Wish he?d have transitioned to the NFL like Moon.
So Dak and Parker. Still not sure that?s better than Alcorn with McNair, though. Had he not been killed, he may have challenged Favre for the top spot. Also, I?m fairly biased. I loved Air.

Agree, but I don?t know that I?d bet on the first ballot. Favre waiting 5 yrs was essentially a technicality.

USM also had Reggie Collier who spent some time in the league

I was going to ask if Forcade was actually any good - because looking at OM's record during his era they sucked. I never realized that statistically he was the best QB in the SEC in '79 & '80 - but HOLY COW did SEC QB's suck then. Yeah, I know the game has changed tremendously, but Forcade led the SEC in Pass Efficiency Rating with a 111.6!! That would have been dead last in the SEC in 2021 (182.15 by Hooker at UT was the leader).

😂 no doubt, but I put him on there because he played for the Saints, I believe. If we go just by college numbers and such, OM is a fair amount higher with Kelly, Wallace, and such. This is seeing whose talent translates to the league.

TC, I will admit freely that I almost always have to google most anything MSU/OM/sports pre 1980. That?s why I like threads like these and posters like you to help me and others brush up on our MSU history.
😂 I should have just asked you to lay it out. You are quite the historian, and for now, I guess rankings will be-
1. OM
2. USM
3. MSU
4. Alcorn
BUT, as we have a QB that released a country album, that has to be worth something.

Well, OM had a QB who turned into a songwrite. He wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia" and that's a damn fine one...thx

That’s because I’m old.. didn’t mention Rockey winning player of the year in the SEC. Or Don Smith or My favorite QB John Bond. How about the QB that won more games than any other MSU QB WAyne Madkin.

I think College QB play is very subjective, so I was looking for Mississippi College QBs that played in the professional leagues, mainly NFL.
Those are very good QBs for us though. Personally, I think Madkin might be the most under appreciated Dawg of all time.

Didn't Don Smith record a SB TD?

Mississippi has an awesome collection of athletes, musicians & authors. Unsurpassed from a percentage standpoint IMO.
