He will be invited to spring training with the MLB team.

He won't unseat Yadi, but I'm glad he's on the team!

Could also see an appearance in Memphis, his hometown.

That's awesome. I always liked Ed.

I'm not real sure why the Diamondbacks didn't call him up in September. In about half of a season, Ed hit 6 home runs, hit .334, and threw out 36% of base runners trying to steal. The MLB average of runners caught stealing was 28% last year.

For the Cardinals, he will compete for the back-up spot with Tony Cruz who hit .203 and threw out 33% of runners. So, if Ed has a good spring and Cruz has a not so good spring, Ed could win the job.

Todd4State according to my source the Diamondbacks had too many other catchers in minor leagues who they had more money invested in so were going to work with them. Diamondbacks wanted to resign Ed but he would have a big hurdle to overcome to make it to the dance and was not guaranteed to be on the spring training roster.

I don't know if your source would concur with me, but I had heard that ever since Ed made 23 errors in A ball three or four years ago- something he has never even come close to doing before or since- the D-Backs kind of gave up on him. Or maybe I should say started to invest in other catchers.

We definitely need more players in the bigs. You get untold amount of free publicity for your program. Every time I look at twitter it seems some big recruit is committing to vandy. Kids today have no clue who Palmeiro and Clark are. Can't keep living in the past.
