No he doesn't. Dan Mullen is a tremendous offensive coach. The guy just struggles to recruit and refuses to hire guys around him that can make up for it.
He could go be an NFL OC tomorrow and be good.

Some truth here. Dan still is a good coach, though...he's just not elite.

The careers of Tebow and Dak certainly create a mirage of Dan as a "QB developer", but it's even worse when you consider that Tim came to Florida as a 5 star highly recruited guy, and he never really improved as a passer. He did help develop Dak, but Dak is also one of those rare guys that just refuses to stop getting better (he's improved every year in the League, too). Dan does deserve a lot of credit for finding guys like Dak and Fitz, though.

He had the top passing team in the SEC last year and lost his QB/TE/WR and now is one of the better running teams. The guy is a good coach. He got conservative vs AL and lost focus end of the year chasing jobs later. And who you think developed those QBs? He made Relf look like a QB.

I agree that he gets a lot of undue praise as a "offensive guru", but he definitely mixed things up while here. He started a damn fullback in 2009 for example, lol. In 2015 we threw it a ton, went under center, used TE's, etc....granted that year was more about featuring Dak's arm for the NFL, but still.

As others have noted, Dan's biggest flaw is he's a lazy recruiter and he surrounds himself with lazy recruiters.

I think Richardson can be good down the road. He's just young and inexperienced. Dan should've gone to the locker room knowing the QB situation but got cute trying to do too much. That's the sign of a coach who knows his ass is on the line. He could've gone in down 10-0. But he was going to lose anyway.

What he did with Relf is amazing and I think if Tyler Russell stays healthy he has eye popping numbers. I agree that Relf was a good dude for us, but he had a ceiling, and was way more of a runner. Tyler wasn't a fit. Fitz was "Relf-wrapped in bacon"; a battering ram with gazelle moves once he broke free. Fitz was a better passer than Chris, but we also had much better talent at WR by then.

Mullen really had it made here and was not smart enough to realize it. He thought going to UF it would recruit itself and he would win big because of that. Also his ego got the best of him and this is the result. Some of these coaches just don?t get that going to the blue blood is not always the answer. I actually respect Napier for not jumping at any opportunity.
